I got one for my Mum, the new paperwhite, she loves it. It looks and works pretty much identical to my original paperwhite, you'd never bother to upgrade. I think it's a touch faster in theory.

Bung: There is no V's just lighting...

Huh?  Whats a V?

OK, everyone with a paperwhite, loves a paperwhite... guess i'll just have to try it.

Are you that case sensitive? V for versus as in "Paperwhite vs e-ink"

Nothing wrong with paperwhite, we have one, but also look at Kobo Aura HD just to see bigger screen and higher definition (and price).

The paperwhite if a good unit, and I will probably buy one for a relative's Christmas present (it's specifically what they want). I looked at it for myself when upgrading my existing Kindle. However, went with the Aura HD in the end. Happy I did. It's gorgeous, the higher resolution and bigger screen makes more difference than I thought it would.

Yup, my summary is that you wouldn't upgrade, but if you're buying anyway, its worth paying a little extra to get the newer generation model. (Faster and 'better' lighting).

I've been pretty tempted by the Aura HD - the bigger screen would be nice, but concluded that the kindle was the right choice for me.  I've also ordered the 3G version, which I understand is not available on other brands.

Update:
I ordered my (Wifes) Kindle from Amazon on Monday 18th, and it arrived on Monday 25th.  Pretty happy about that turn-around.  They under-promisied, (4-Dec), and over-delivered in half the time.

The device does seem to have a bit of hazing(?) around the edges... a bit like you are holding a magnet close to the edge.  I only noticied it briefly, and its now in a shoe shop... I'll try and get a better look when i next get my hands on it.
Its probably something i'll ignore unless she ever brings it up.
Now we've just gotta make the time to get the most out of it...
