Basically place the sensor in to the wooden door itself and surrounding frame with mounts that you can easily unscrew to change batteries etc.

Ok Understand. I have metal doors and windows but really the sensors don't seem overly visible. Regarding replacing batteries. One of my sensors came open accidentally but the others appear firmly fastened together, have you opened any of your sensors. Is there a trick to opening? I also wonder how long the batteries will last. Some of my doors are opened frequently during day. Also Not sure how they work. Is the battery used to generate a circuit all the time they are closed or only when they are opened. Any ideas

The issue for me is that the doors sit flush in the door jamb but the architrave sits proud meaning that the sensors cannot be attached as they won't line up if they're surface mounted. Recessed mounting of both sensor and magnet solve this issue and also hide them away.

@moreporknewzealand I've noticed that other sensor manufacturers provide either a recessed unit or brackets to mount recessed; see here for example of brackets: http://axxind.com/files/devices/installation/InstallC4-ContactSensor.pdf perhaps this is something that Moorpork could consider?  Given the age of some of the houses in NZ, the architraves in play do make it harder to mount the sensors correctly.

Hi there,

We have not brought out any such sensors as there has been little demand for them, also we try and maintain the majority of our devices as DIY and this requires a bit more work by our users.  It will be interesting to understand how much demand there is out there!

Thanks

@ronw door & window sensor battery life is up to 24 months, you will receive a notification when they run low. Here's a link for more information https://morepork.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/211551837-Door-window-sensors

I guess I didn't mean that exact sensor but perhaps some brackets included with the set so they could be installed.  The issue is not drilling the hole, but finding a bracket that fits both the sensor and the magnet and can be flush mounted.  Mitre10/bunnings do not have brackets of the correct size or slimness to work.

@moreporknewzealand can you utilise other manufacturers sensors with the system or must they only be from your supplier?

Does anybody have the HD Indoor Video Cameras? How are you finding them? They're decent quality, but even connected up via Ethernet, live streaming still is a bit laggy and choppy. When you push to talk it doesn't get to the camera until about 4-5 seconds later.

Perhaps their main use case was just to record motion?

I have the ADC-V520IR indoors and the ADC-V721W outdoors. The outside camera is hard-wired into the mains. The inside camera is plugged into a UPS, so if the power goes out it should remain operational for several hours as the load is very low on the UPS.

The video quality is good enough......

I also have - separately - a TP-Link NC-450(IR) camera separately, also on a UPS. That one I can move around remotely through a very wide range of view.

It's a fun way to know when it's time to go to the other house to mow the lawn.....and the motion detection keeps me right up to date on the fact nothing ever happens.

At least I know it's a safe neighbourhood. Almost 14 months and no one has so much as opened the front gate.

Here's a sample snip from my desktop in HD mode of the ADC0520IR

I reckon for $300, I'd rather get something like the Ubiquiti UniFi G3 cameras. Plus, you know the videos are managed by yours truly.

I prefer the cloud-based video storage. If the property is entered, I'll have video in the cloud in seconds...and if the house is entered I'll have video of that, too, in seconds. The video cameras don't go through the panel, so even if the panel was destroyed, I still get the video. The panel also has a battery, so even if they unplug it, it takes a photo and uploads it the moment the panel is touched or moved. Smile for the camera.

Local storage is useless as they can just steal that, too.

Morepork's mobile network connection and cloud storage was the critical element for me. It won't matter to everyone, of course.

I guess you could set the UniFi video camera to record to an off-site NVR too and that would have cloud access enabled. But yes, for the average Joe, setup of the Morepork is definitely much easier. I just found the streaming to be quite poor, and no PoE support.

I would be keen to try out the Netgear Arlo and compare just the cameras between the two though.

Hi,

Has anyone signed up to the Morepork package recently ie 2019/20?  I have just bought a South Auckland property and friends and family are pushing me to get an alarm.

I have never needed one where I previously lived in One Tree Hill in 11 years.  So I don't know what to look for.  But don't want to spend $1000+.

I am happy to pay the $39.95 pm as i includes the whole kit now days so that's $480 in the year.  Has anyone else signed up to them and how do you find it?  Any glitches?  How long do the sensors last on the windows (if you open them frequently in Summer)?  And is an outside Siren available (even in another brand that is compatible)?

Thanks

I have been with Morepork since it was launched by Spark. Was a bit disappointed when they flicked it to ADT but stuck with it. I lve it. It does everything I want and I can arm it remotely. I have setup the GPS option so that it alerts me if I forget to arm the system once I move outside of the GPS location of me home. It is really good once I pass over the boundary it sends me a text which goes to my watch. I just press arm on the watch and it arms to system. You coulod even have it work in reverse and it will alert you once you come back into the GPS area.

I have metal doors and no problem attaching the devices to that. Main doors are wood and same applied there. Have had the setup for about two years and batteries in sensors still fine.

I have also purchased a Z-Wave siren to really wake us up at night time which also works well

All in all I am more than happy with system. The cameras work well and I have a few photos of self running up stairs to disarm because I forgot do disarm.
