Some things work, some don't. If I say play NewstalkZB Wellington, it plays NewstalkZB Auckland. If I say play 89.3, it plays NewstalkZB Wellington.

"Hey Google play more fm" or play "the sound radio" seems to work just fine for me.
In fact "play Brian fm" plays Brian fm and it defaults to the Ashburton feed. If I say "brian fm nelson" it plays that stream.
Seems to be worth chucking fm or radio into the command if you are having issues.

This is now a good buy Lenovo 7" Smart Display - very similar to the google 7" hub, and has a video camera in it, which the google 7" doesn't - $299 for 2, or $199 each.

I have the 10" Lenovo and a 7" google.

Google has a couple of 'nice' features, like better ambient lighting detection, however the lenovo is rock solid with good sound.

Edit: Catch of the day has a better price: $237.89 delivered for 2

So a couple of questions on the Nest Mini:

1. How well does the Mini work for someone who owns an iPhone (and for a household where devices are a mix of iOS and Android)? I assume that, once set up via Google Home app, things like Spotify, radio, shopping lists etc work no differently; just wanted to be sure there weren’t any ‘gotchas’.

2. Are all the cheap-as deals for the Mini well and truly over, or could we expect to see them again in the lead-up to Xmas? I know I could pick up a refurbed gen 1 on 1day, but the louder sound and a functioning pause/play button on the newer unit do seem to make it worth having over the original.

Thanks heaps.

I have an apple household with 2 x Nest Mini (2nd Gen) yes you are correct everything once setup is fine. I use Hey google more now than siri because she's always within earshot now at home, its also good that Google has the conversational ability when you can ask followup questions and she knows what I am talking about.

Thanks, that’s question one answered for sure, now just a matter of waiting for a decent price. Seems weird to be paying $90 when so recently they’ve been half that. (This is for a present; there aren’t too many more places we can put a GA device in our own house - have to say the one in the bathroom is one of the more useful!)

Edit: does anyone have a gen 2 Mini they’re not using and would be interested in selling?

Cheapest place, as last time, seems to be Bunnings with it selling there for $47.50.
