I purchased an Echo from Noel Leeming a couple of weeks ago, I have linked my Spotify account, but Alexa insists of repeating the song I ask it to play before playing it, is there a setting to turn that off, so it just plays the song?
I bought home an Echo and a Spot today, and most things are working OK, but I can't get them to play a NZ radio station. I've read all 63 (and a bit) pages of this thread now, and seen the references to specifying the frequency rather than the station's name, but it is playing stations from America and Germany.
The only apps I have installed on my iPhone are Amazon Alexa, and Simple Radio. The latter because it was at the top of the list.
Language is set to English (Australia). The only other options English (United States) and Deutsch on the Spot, but the Echo has a bunch of language options. Both are set to Pacific.
I'm guessing I have not mastered the settings yet, so I wouldn't mind a heads up.
TLD:... I can't get them to play a NZ radio station...
Have you tried this?
May be, all of the above steps aren't needed and there are probably other ways to do this but this worked for me.
Good luck!
Yay! Not only did it work right away, but when I asked Alexa 'Who is the The Man?' afterwards, it gave me your name. I hadn't seen this Alexa Home Page before, so that's another thing to explore.
I picked up my two devices yesterday lunch time, and set them up while doing a very quiet shift at Marlborough Citizens Advice, where I volunteer once a week. My buddy who, I usually work with, was so impressed he got straight on the phone to Noel Leaming and put a hold on a Spot to pick at the end of the shift. This morning while setting up TuneIn from our computer room, I did not at first realize that it was all happening on the Echo in the kitchen, where an electrician was doing some work (we have a big refurb going on). He was also impressed, and while he did not say he was going to rush out and buy one, he showed a lot of interest. Me thinks they'd better order in some more stock at Noel Leaming.
I had a look at the Philips Hue lights in Bunnings this morning. Unfortunately, the room where it would make most sense has only just had new LED downlights fitted which is a real pity as the Bunnings units cost not much more than the ones just fitted. I don't know how bright they are though

There are some B22 bayonet wall lights in that room, but they tend to go on and stay on, so not much of an advantage. Maybe from a remotely operated security lights point of view. It's nice that you can build up a system over time, so that you hardly notice the cost.
Is this relevant to us? US$100 off of Echo Show for Prime Customers, and other big discounts.

I should imagine it's relevant if you don't mind using Youshop (I presume).

I got tempted by the 99c trial of amazon music for 4 months.
Now my echo spot is not showing any lyrics on anything. Previously it would on the songs from prime music that had them.
It pushed me over to the .com.au site to buy because I was trying to use my NZD card for it. Before I try things does anyone else have it working on an echo spot?

I had the same thing happen - my 10" Fire Tablet had show mode available a week or so ago, and although it initially showed lyrics etc in show mode, after buying the Amazon Music trial (via AU rather than my normal US), the lyrics no longer appear. Maybe it's a regional rights thing?
kiwimustang: Hey folks, just got my Echo Plus today, linked up Spotify and iHeart but when I try to set up my voice profile it says "at this time I am having trouble learning you voice". Any suggestions?
Voice profile? What's that then? Is that a thing with all Alexa devices? Methinks I need to Google.
I bought the Echo Show equivalent which is basically a Fire HD tablet (8" and there is a 10" version) with a Echo Show docking station.

The doc was $35 and the Fie HD 8 $55 (Ebay new with shipping to Youshop - same price on Prime Day) and they both arrived today. So I have a Echo Show for about US$90 but a larger screen plus NZ$36 shipping for them both (It was cheaper to ship separately than combine). So that seems like a good deal. Not entirely sure what I will do with the "Show" that I don't do now with the Dot but the video might link to a compatible security camera or something.
Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD. https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
I have spent the last half an hour trying to create a voice profile, and getting the same response as KiwiMustang 'At this time, I am having trouble learning your voice'.
The slightly strange thing is that I am finding precious few directly relevant hits with Google, with what must surely be a common issue. I moved the Echo to a quiet location with no background noise, and turned off the Spot in the bedroom. The devices are a couple of weeks old, and get a lot of interaction, so it is used to my voice by now. It rarely has a problem with normal interaction. It just doesn't seem to want to create a Voice Profile for me.
I have a feeling I might soon be discovering what Alexa's reaction to being severely cursed might be at this rate!
