Unfortunately I don't have any Android/Amazon devices. I relied on the Amazon site to confirm it will accept iOS, but it neglected to say that if you are out of the US it's just a wish.

What does interest me is when I request a tune from Echo, it tells me it's found it in Prime. Does that mean I have a complimentary account? For how long?

For anyone else in the same position, here's what I found in my acknowledgement email from Amazon: " Your Prime benefits will end when your free month is complete and you will not be charged."

For anyone else in the same position, here's what I found in my acknowledgement email from Amazon: " Your Prime benefits will end when your free month is complete and you will not be charged."

I wouldn't rely on it.. I just discovered I was charged last week for Prime, failed to cancel it after the free month. Had to get them to refund via Chat..

I've just found my prime music which never worked (even plain amazon music was broken) has fixed itself but the prime catalog is crap. I'm not using it on a vpn at all. Do they have separate catalogs for different countries or am I getting the us catalog and it just has huge gaps in it?

Im enjoying following my Amazon Echo package from Amazon to the Youshop address. Been on Google Maps etc. For those who are buying in the future once it arrives at the NZ Post Headquarters in 14601 N BYBEE LAKE CT, PORTLAND, Oregon, item will say 'left at the dock'. This means its a dock near the warehouse entrance. I looked further at the address and it appears OIA global shipping warehouse. Their website http://www.oiaglobal.com/en/ state they do air freight forwarding... I was expecting to see a big red NZPOST building on this google map but no, just plain white warehouses. Still cool to see how the process works.
For those interested a FedEx tracking number is provided once it leaves Amazon. In the tracking number is the weight and package of the Amazon Echo, it's

Total shipment weight

4 lbs / 1.81 kgs

Dimensions

10x7x6 in.

which equates to about NZ$30 shipping through YouShop.

They are missing 1 big label which is I am guessing you are finding. I am unsure if they will ever come to terms with that label, but I am unsure the reason. Having said that, I don't think I'd say the selection is crap, though of course it would depend on who you like to listen to.

Sure, but it still only works with US locations. I can get round that by asking "Alexa, what is the temperature in Wellington New Zealand?" Otherwise I get Seattle.

Yes, I use Echo extensively to control 9 Wemo wall plugs and 3 built-in wall switches for lights, heaters, electric blankets, outside lights and tv. I sometimes use the remote control, and am looking forward to when Wemo integrates with Siri.

Yup.

The hardware is aweful tho. The only reason I bought overpriced large and junky wemo was for the echo.

frequency differences is what is stopping me getting something else, since the US has a different band for zwave stuff. I dont really want to get stuck with a bridge on US frequancies and then not be able to get anything to work with it. Also the gear is really pricy.

I did find some ras-pi stuff to make a fake philips hue which I was hopting to have the echo talk to. But effort.

@richms: I believe that someone has integrated the Echo with openHAB - this means you should be able to use to control just about anything in your home (that is connected to openHAB), including Z-Wave, Kodi, Sonos, AVRs, anything with an openHAB binding. Probably not a *black-box* solution however, so would require some tinkering, but that is half the fun isn't it?!
