Well got it working although I am not quite sure how :-) It will now turn on and off the TV but will not operate the Mitsubishi heat pump which is what I bought it for. Anyone sucessfully using it with a Mitsubishi ?

I am using it with two Mitsubishi heat pumps. I got the codes outside the app using the homebridge plugin.

What model of heat pump? Are you using homebridge or just the broadlink app?

the add device thing IME only works on a network with a single 2.4GHz AP. If you have multiple then it seems that the thing to send out the SSID and key by using broadcast packets gets munged up by multiple places it gets broadcast from.

Also the thing seems to sit on the channel with the strongest signal when scanning for you setting AP's, I had another AP right beside it on a totally different network and it didnt work till I turned that one off.

Sorry I didn't notice the Android symbol was your Avatar, so you're probably not using Homebridge! Its basically the open source version of Apple's HomeKit, it makes pretty much any smart device HomeKit compatible so you can use it with the AppleTV hub and iDevices remotely, set timers and automations etc. The Broadlink plugin also lets you learn codes and spits them out for you so you can edit and send custom IR signals via the Broadlink transmitter. I use it to control TC2 light switches and our 2 heat pumps on timers, with motion detectors, reed sensors on the windows, and while out of the house. I really like the way you can have lots of different brands of devices working together. I think the closest Android equivalent is probably Samsung smart things but I've never used it.

I have a spare RM3 (When sourcing this sort of cheap stuff I usually buy 2 of everything in case one is DOA or I need stupid presents for people) I could let go...

In this case, the first one works fine so I have a spare BNIB. $32NZD inc shipping or $28 pickup in Chch... (It's not the English one Banggood says they ship - they lied about mine - but as far as I can tell that's just the manual...)

I also have a spare BNIB Chromecast from the US $50 inc shipping if anyone cares.

My RM3 arrived today from Banggood - 24 days shipping. Their website marketing about English instructions is clearly false per previous posts - I noted mine has a QA stamp from December 2016 so perhaps I got old stock.

Works fine out of the box, followed the instructions in the terrible iOS e-Control app and it was set up and sending commands to my Panasonic heat pump in less than 2 minutes. Works fine off the home network on 4G with less than 1s delay between command and action.

I also got it working (only within the LAN) with homebridge and Siri, though I need to spend some time capturing all the correct IR codes and mapping them in my config.json file.

Well worth the $20 spent at this point in time.

I see within the e-Control app there is a firmware update available from v20027 to v20029 - has anyone done this? I don't want to brick it on day 1...

Best to brick it now while you would still have some recourse against the seller.

Anyone here using the Broadlink device with Home Assistant? I had a bit of difficulty getting the IR codes to work in Home Assistant but am making progress. So far I can get my Fujitsu Nocria heatpump to turn on and off based on specific times. Keen to hear how others are using it.

Hello,

I have recently had the same issue. I wanted to control my heat pump via the network. It's a Fujitsu.

I ended up building a controller based on an ESP8266, the Wemos D1 Mini Pro, and an IR LED with a resistor. Basically it sits on the network and is wifi in, IR out. I will link it to Domoticz once I have finished testing.

I can't post links yet, but the core software is ToniA/arduino-heatpumpir on GitHub. Someone else has wrapped it up with a webserver or MQTT server, depending on your preference.

As well as the IR sender I have built an IR receiver (based on Arduino). This allows me to verify that the Wemos is sending the same packets as the real remote, for any specific setting. Once I've checked a few settings I'll let it loose on the real unit.

I no longer recommend Broadlink RM pro. Lately the timer for one of my devices has changed, so instead of heating in the morning and cooling in the afternoon it's switched to cool in the morning and heat in the afternoon. I fix it, but it reverts every few days. This is a heck of a bug, given the timer is the whole point of what I use the RM Pro. Also, around daylight savings change, the timer didn't work correctly, and it wouldn't let you set a timer for some times during the day.

Broadlink provides no support at all, doesn't answer emails, even though it's a paid product - a cheap paid product.

I suggest paying more to get a better quality product that's supported.

I'd love to find other software that can control the RM Pro, especially if it already knows codes for my air conditions. What is "HomeAssistant"? A few more pointers would be good :)

I'm pretty technical, but I'm very time poor working full time and with a toddler. I might have an hour or two a week to play with stuff like this.

I think it's reasonable to expect a manufacturer to have software that actually works, doing the basics. Doesn't have to be perfect, but has to work and not do stupid things like the BroadLink stuff does.
