Here is another one: parents-in-law have an Amazon Echo in the study and a Harman Kardon with Alexa in the lounge. If I do a Drop In or an Alexa call it will ring on the Amazon Echo not the HK... Is there a way to set a "default" communications device perhaps?

I thought calling was only on the real amazon devices and not others that featured alexa in them?

So here's one.

I have ended up with an Amazon Echo 2nd Gen AND an Amazon Echo Plus 1st gen.

I am going to keep one. Which should I unbox?

I thought about using the Phillips Hue Bulb (white) but I am unsure if I need the home hub in the Plus for this single bulb?

I was led to believe that Plus was required for Hue BUT the Hue website says compatible with Echo as well as Plus??

Also what are the key differences?

As far as I can see:

2nd Gen POSITIVES
- better sound quality (although apparently same disagree??)
- less industrial in appearance
- apparently better microphone according to most reviews (although Amazon specs for the 1st gen Mic are identical and describe the same 7 Mic array???)

1st Gen POSITIVES
- volume control ring - this sounds like it would be really really good!!! Is it worth sticking with the first gen on this basis alone???

Any other key differences?? Which would you recommend? I don't know how useful Zigbee is??

Any thoughts appreciated thanks!

In what way do you find it way better?

And is that a good enough reason to forego to "Plus" home hub aspect of the Echo Plus?

It’s $229? Is that cheap?

Is echo 2nd gen similar to echo dot 3rd gen Tech wise?

Really debating echo vs google, but google home devices are not formally released here yet anyway.

Well this sucks.  I just tried to add the Apple Music skill, went all the way through verifying my account etc and then was presented with a message saying the Apple Music skill is not available in my region.  WTF.  This is the definition of pointless.

It is considering how much I paid for my Aiwa and Pioneer stereos in the 90s.  :)

It's a smart subwoofer...cheap as. You can use Pandora, iheartradio, TuneIn and Spotify all through it. Set you content and device settings to USA and enjoy advert free music forever.

Cheap, but I wouldn't call it amazing.

In fact, calling it a subwoofer is stretching things as it goes almost down to 30Hz and it certainly won't be flat when it's that low...

It's a woofer, yup... but it aint not subwoofer.

At the bottom end of the market / cheap computer speaker subwoofers it's sweet.

Against anything good, it's just a toy.

Good luck with getting one, I've had a pre order in for a sandstone plus gen 2 and subwoofer since mid Nov and neither have been provided to jb hifi by amazon. The gen 2 has a date in 'the new year' while the sub has no eta at all.

Bit frustrating really, you can also see noel leeming have pulled those products from their site.

There's availability in aus, they're just not giving any to nz. Have a friend going to aus in a couple of weeks, if there's no movement by then then the order will be cancelled and they'll be coming over in a suitcase instead.
