HawK89: Hey, thanks for the reply. I have 0 work experience regarding IT. I've done non-IT work during my high school days. Would my current qualifications be enough for a helpdesk support role? do I need further qualifications? ta
You don't need a degree to do a helpdesk job, but you seriously need some practical problem solving skills. You need to be able to empathise with frustrated customers, and eliminate possibilities until you find the root cause of each problem. While you are doing that you can ask the boss to help you get some Cisco training and perhaps a small project that could get you started on the networking path. In the mean time, try to setup some VoIP and VLAN experiments, and build something like a FreeBSD mail or web server on some obsolete hardware, maybe an IP PBX. If you can do FreeBSD you might impress the potential employers because its a useful more secure platform.
