Been following the blogs, rather than the live stream, but the phrase 'catch up' springs to mind for iOS. Bit disappointed some features are only for the latest generation of devices.

The new iOS 7 theme kinda looks like one of Android's GoLauncher themes though..

True, I guess android users will and always will hate & vice versa.

Comparable to Crips vs Bloods (hha) , some south auckland humor there.

Did I read correctly that iOS7 will only work on iPhone 5, iPad 4th gen and upwards?

I was meaning the people with older devices who cant get some of the features, such as Ipad.

Yeah most likely, used to be called fragmentation.

Its called planned obsolence, you see it all over the place.

Its not really fragmentation, because the apps will work on the devices supported. For fragmentation on smart phones / tablets, see Android.

Apple is well known for this. Software that run on latest Mac OS X may not run on previous versions of Mac OS X. Mainframes do it all the time. I used to work for Unisys and software was only certain to run up to two previous OS releases and two next OS releases before need to recompile.

People are used to Microsoft support for obsolete software. Basically anything that run on MS DOS can run on Windows 7 and so on, unless it's very specific. That resulted in an OS with lots of bloat due to the need to support old software.

It's very different, as noted, from Android where even the same OS version may or may not run some software because of device differences.

Why is air drop only for the latest devices? Is there an extra chip involved?
The ipod4 being dropped from the ios7 update annoys me because my kids will start to hound me as soon as there are unsupported games, just the same as happened between the ipod3 and 4.

This is my beef, too.

My kids have an iPod touch each - both relatively new 4th Gen models.

This explains the quiet phasing out of the 4th gen (and subsequent replacement with the half-specced 5th gen) on the Apple Store website, though.

Not looking forward to the moaning and whining as the kids start to see their iPods become nothing more than music players.

Personally it was disappointing.

iOS 7 has some nice additions but design wise I think it fails

Icon Wise there are only a few that I think work well Calendar, Clock, Maps, Stocks.
The rest to me look shockingly bad Game Centre Compass & Safari are by far the worst offenders and look like they where designed by 5 different teams in different universes. Safari alone looks like it was designed by a 2 year old with a stuck shift key.

In the status bar the cell tower indicator take up way to much room and it loses all it's functionality especially if your on 2degrees where on anything iOS 1 - iOS 5 would let you know when your roaming on vodafone.

Notification center not sure why they decided here to go with bigger margins here. Feels like a case of where going to give you a bigger screen then make it so you have to scroll more than you ever did before.

Generally more stuff is now hidden in the camera you have to scroll and scroll to get to the desired mode and its the same in the share screen.

All that being said Control centre is a big win but design wise I have to wonder if this is another case of 2 different teams doing the work as here and only here are there big fat black boarders.

Nothing in this version of iOS schemes consistent.

Mac OS X wise I think that there are some big features Multiple displays has to be the biggest thing. the current support is the one reason I never use full screen mode on my desktop. iCloud keychain is one of those features from MobileMe that should have never gone away but I will still end up using 1password.

As for the macs the only one I care about the the non-retana MacBook Pros(the ones with ethernet) are still waiting for an update. Given they had pre released the iPod Touch I was expecting a big hardware update but only 2 new products and one pre announcement.

Personally I feel like Apple gave into the media and are pushing a update that only the media want. There has been no real evidence at least numbers wise that there was anything wrong with the past design the iPhones and iPads are flying out the door.

Anyway that's my thoughts. I may be wrong as we have only seen images and I would like for this to be the case but I am not going to be holding my breath.
