One of my users has a 4S that is downloading lots of data at night. We are seeing packets like this.

As you can see there are significant packet uses in the middle of the night and my user assures me that they are not doing anything.

We are burning up over 1GB a month! This is on Telecom.

We have done the following.

Checked to see what apps if any might do that. I can't think of any. The Corporate e-mail account (Exchange) is set to pull email, not push and anyway there would not be much at that time of the night. Other apps installed are the usual ones life Facebook, Stuff, NZ Sale and some others.

We did a hard reset and restored the phone but that didn't help. She also deleted a number of apps including Google Maps but (and I didn't think it would) it made no difference.

Even gave her a new 4S but then it was restored from an iCloud backup and the usage continued.

Are there any tools on IOS I can look at to see what apps are using what data? On Android it's easy as it's built into the OS but I can't see on IOS.

Thanks for any tips.

Exchange could be a culprit, even a stuck email or a stuck calendar sync can use up significant amount of data.
PM me the details with number and I can take a look.

Automatic app updates off I assume? I have seen Telecom provide details of the hostnames etc and types of traffic which might help you

Go to settings -> cellular and scroll down. Reset the counter and check which app(s) is clocking up the usage.

THIS^^

though in my 4S (on 2D) it's called 'mobile' rather than celular (right under bluetooth) with a green pic of a cell tower.

each app can be switched on/off from using mobile data too, so might be worth only switching on the apps that actually need to be 'mobile' (all work when on wifi, and updates are by default only allowed 50m or must wait for wifi+charging status too...)

Interestingly, I see 354mb of "system services" at the bottom of my list after about 3 months... could be worth checking if yours looks high?

Aaargh, it's called something different on each model, don't know why....

You can tap in to that and get a breakdown of system usage too.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

yup, and that's where they hide the Exchange data transfer (which mine mostly was) too :)
