A jailbreak for iOS 8.0-8.1 has just been released by Pangu, surprising most of the jailbreak community!

Currently still in early stages, requiring the user to install Cydia separately after jailbreaking, but Pangu should incorporate Cydia into its next release, very soon.

Keep in mind:
- Currently only available for Windows (Mac version to be released soon)
- Most jailbreak tweaks will not work on iOS 8 yet, as mobile substrate still needs to be updated

If you're new to the jailbreak scene, I'd probably recommend waiting till the next version of the jailbreak tool with Cydia integration so it doesn't need to be installed separately (hopefully within the next couple of days).

Update: The Jailbreak has been updated. Now comes bundled with Cydia and has English support. Still no mac support but this should be coming in the next few days, however if you can't wait you can install via bootcamp/Parallels Desktop etc.

Mobile substrate has been updated for iOS 8 support also, along with over 350 tweaks which have now been updated and are reported to be working on iOS 8.

Agree that it's not as useful as it once was, but there are still a fair number of tweaks that I find make using the iPhone more useful/enjoyable.

SwipeSelection (probably my favourite) - very simple tweak that allows you to move the cursor by sliding your finger over the keyboard. Hard to live without once you're used to using it

FlipControlCentre - Allows you to add to and customise the switches available to you by swiping up the control centre, so you can have more than the 5 offered by default, and scroll through them. Great for adding the option of toggling data, 3g/4g, VPN, Location services etc plus adding shortcuts to Settings or your own favourite apps, all of which aren't otherwise available.

BiteSMS - although the quick reply option in iOS 8 is an improvement, the default messaging app still doesn't come close to offering the features of BiteSMS; Scheduled messages being the most important for me.

International Locations for Siri - Ever tried to search for a restaurant or shop here only to be told that Siri can't search for locations in NZ? Problem solved with this tweak

And there's countless others that still make jailbreaking worthwhile IMO; Activator, iFile, Safari Download Manager, AdBlocker, to name a few.

Plus it's just nice to feel in control of your device. I have no problem with Apple's walled garden giving us the best user experience, but its nice to have a hole in the wall you can crawl out of from time to time :)

Yeah there is just too big of a tradeoff between stability / flexibility to update when iOS releases come out for me to bother anymore, i can see your argument though.

Anyone planning on jailbreaking at some point in the future, make sure you update to iOS 8.1 NOW!

iOS 8.1.1 beta has been released which patches the exploits used in the pangu jailbreak. Luckily 8.1.1 hasn't been released to the public yet so you still have time. Make sure you update to 8.1 so that you’ll be locked in and will be able to jailbreak even when iOS 8.1.1 releases. Why do this? Because once Apple releases iOS 8.1.1 to the public, they’ll stop signing iOS 8.1, which means you won’t be able to update to iOS 8.1 and will be forced to update to iOS 8.1.1, making your iPhone or iPad unjailbreakable.

Awesome, finally. I had probably a couple dozen tweaks, but a couple of the ones I liked most -

Virtual Home - So you only need to touch the Home button, not physically press it down
Bio Lockdown - So you can lock any app with a fingerprint lock

Cydia creator Jay Freeman (better known as Saurik) has tweeted that the jailbreak for iOS 8.0-8.1 is now “stable enough” for use.

Still waiting for Mac version. Shouldn't be more than a matter of hours now.. Tried jailbreaking with Parallels Desktop but this kept generating error messages so I'd recommend against this.. I've decided to just wait for a stable mac version.

Well I couldn't resist the temptation and jailbroke by 5s using Pangu for Mac.

Easy, quick, and Springtomize is as good as I remember :)

I was always a bad influence..

Just a note that since jailbreaking I have discovered that International Locations for Siri hasn't been updated to support iOS8 yet. Hopefully will be in the future but no guarantees.. The others I mentioned work great though. It was a pretty painless process for me, and should be for everyone given that you:

1. Updated to iOS8 via iTunes rather than directly through your phone (OTA)
2. Turn off passcode and Find My iPhone before jailbreaking (you can turn them back on afterwards)
3. Have recently backed up your phone through iTunes - I would recommend restoring your phone to factory settings before jailbreaking, then restoring your backup after the jailbreak, makes the process a lot faster, especially if you have a lot of data on your phone
4. Switch to airplane mode during the jailbreak process

Looks like apple have released 8.1.1 which patches the jailbreak, so the window is all but closed! Apple is still signing 8.1 as of the time of this post, so if you haven't upgraded to iOS 8.1 yet this is literally your last chance to download iOS 8.1 and jailbreak, apple will probably stop signing 8.1 within the next day or so..
