Hi Guys,

I've read a few threads here before (particularly regarding the state of DSL in NZ), but only decided to sign up this morning as I finally have something useful to share! Hopefully I'm welcome here. :)

I recently had a friend bring me back an iPhone from the US, and have run the unlocks to run it on Vodafone NZ. I've given a brief 4-part review here on my own blog. I'm not sure if you guys like me linking to an external source, I could easily re-write a summary to put in this thread if you'd like.

I pretty much cover the basics of the iPhone, outline some of the minor quirks of running of Vodafone NZ, and a couple of useful fixes to correct voicemail and format numbers correctly for NZ.

If anyone's thinking bout buying an iPhone, this could give some useful insight. PS.. stay away from the 1.1.1 firmware! It will brick your iPhone! Yell

Welcome to Geekzone.

External linking is encouraged, as long as its relevant to our community, not a revenue gathering excercise, and not spamful spammish spamnormous spamtastic spam-like. (Generally anything interesting and non-commerical is welcome) Tongue out

Only in New Zealand someone would compare an iPhone with a wetbix...

1.1.1 doesn't brick your phone anymore :-)

actually, i'll rephrase that: effectively it does brick the phone part if your using the software unlock... for the time being.

TurboSIM doesn't seem to be affected by the new baseband firmware

Still drooling over it! Some old guy in the elevator this morning in my apartment saw me playing on it, and said "Is that one of those new iPods?", to which i proudly replied that it was an iPhone, and he was like "Oh wow! I havn't seen one of them yet...!".

I was trying to post a reply to this thread though on my iphone yesterday from in the bath (yes, I took the iphone in the bath!), but all the rich-text formatting options were messing up the text-input area. hmmm...

That's because Safari, oh well... Seriously though, just visit your profile page and change the options to not use the editor.

I have a iPhone and it makes me happy in ways you will never truly understand. It's a pleasure to use, you can tell they sweated the small stuff to get it just right.

Of all the many phones I have used, this was such a small learning curve because everything was intuitive.

I love the txt messaging listing the complete history like a chat program instead of 300 random entries in my inbox I have to manually wade through because ONE of them might contain some vital detail I need.

I love the maps, satalite imaging, FUNCTIONAL e-mail, and browser and the phone features itself are so well done, making simple tasks like hang up & answer new call one button push.

The things which do bug me are not being able to forward txt messages, no PXT! and I'm not getting voicemail notification TXT's and now Vodafone are sending me this stupid txt before the you missed a call from txt because of my phone model.
