There's an app that can transfer files between iphone and pc (vice versa) just by being connected to the same wifi router and I can type in the address into my pc browser and away you go. No need to install any host programs on PC.

Anyone knows of a free app that does exactly the same?

Thanks for the link. That soft has a free option. We tried it yesterday and were able to free iPad from still needed video tutorials.

However that solved only 1/2 of the issue (free space). Tutorials still need to be used on iPad - so the next task is to set up some sort of a NAS for iPad and Stream those from that drive. (Plex?)

Brief look around suggests AFT is supported by some implementations on Linux.

Did anyone tried and happy with setting up Video Streaming to their iPad from the NAS in their home LAN? Suggestions please (System used, NAS used and Streaming used)? P.S. prefer open source and hardware wise - will use whatever available at hand...

OPlayer and OPlayer Lite will play from SMB shares. They work pretty well.

Thanks for the tip. Looked at reviews - people are saying it was good but even with the paid version - they say recently it asks for in-app purchases and upgrades. The other show-stopper in recent feedback for the paid version is that they say - if you pause (which will be happening frequently as it is for tutorials) - it drops and force you to start from beginning...

I have Plex set up streaming to both IOS and Android devices. That works well, but haven't tried pausing for a lengthy period and then resuming, but certainly if you exit a video part way through and then come back to it, it offers to resume at the point where you left off, so it may be an option.
