Firstly, really disappointed about the lack of touch ID on the X model.  Just thinking the number of times I unlock the phone from sideways.

The X screen and camera though, look great.

I have been saving for the iPhone X but I am torn about if I want this or the iPhone8.

The screen is nice, but the battery life could potentially be worse than my iPhone7+

Is it my imagination or did they mention Touch ID in the screen but glance over it?

It's your imagination, the iPhone X has Face ID to replace Touch ID, although it remains to be seen if we'll have another Samsung-type facial recognition on our hands.

If it turns out Face ID is good, I'll most likely be upgrading my 7+ to the X

The price jump from the 64gb to 256gb on the iPhoneX is steep!

$1799 - $2099 - Ouch.

Looking at my iPhone 7+ I am only using 47gb so I should get away with the 64GB depending on how intensive video, photos etc. are.

Meh. They didn't invent anything.

Looks like a rebadged Galaxy S8 with different software and less features.

I glanced away, it must have been 3D touch.

The future of fingerprint recognition is using the screen itself. While a number of manufacturers have demonstatated this it's very clear that even Apple don't think this is yet stable enough to publically offer.

I guess the interesting thing will be to see what big manfacturer brings this to market first.

There are some FAQs on Apple's NZ site that concern me.

Do I need an iPhone-specific service plan?

Yes, you do.

Can I use the SIM card in my iPhone with my iPad?

No. iPhone SIM cards are not interchangeable with the SIM card in your iPad.

With my iPhone 4S and 6, the SIM and plan were generic. Are these FAQs likely to be accurate or have they just blindly copied-and-pasted them from another country that has restrictions?

[Edit: It also says this for the 6S, which I know to be wrong, so it looks like someone's just plastered false information on there.]

All in all, I don't regret shifting to Samsung. The X doesn't offer much over and above my S8+ which had so far been a stirling device.
I had wondered about waiting for the X, but I can't see what the extra $1000 or so would get me that would be worth that.

I was pretty excited about this but now that I have seen the phones not so much.

Our company dishes out new phones every two years and the end of this year would be a chance for an upgrade. I'm not yet sure what to do. I still have my iphone 6s from 2 years ago and its suited me just fine, I jumped to apple after years with Android at the end of 2015. I'm not keen on going back to Android, I think the iphone plus models are too big, so I guess it will just be the standard bulletproof design iphone 8, 4.7" then.

Edit: See the iphone 8 does not come in black. Whats up with that? That to me is worse than not having a standard audio jack.

I still have my 6+ from three years ago, I got over the 12 month upgrade cycle. Just a phone. But I can get an X free, but forgot about the audio jack .

Did you buy wireless headphones, was that the common theme when they dropped the audio jack?

No I still use the old wired iphone earphones as my 6+ has the jack. The only time I ever use them though is sometimes when doing a conference call on the go. (Not sure if the new iphone wireless headphones even have a mic built in? It will be a bummer if they don't). But I believe the wired headphones can still be used anyway with adapter.

I'm not into those wireless earphones, and personally I think they silly. I use Bluetooth though in my car and at home to play some music.

The portrait camera mode looks awesome.

I can't figure out why there is no Always On Display with the OLED display. This is one of the best features of having an OLED display.
