Over the weekend I noticed my phone battery was draining much much faster than usual despite not using the device as much. I haven't updated the iOS in over a month (currently on 11.1.2) and haven't updated or installed any apps in over a week. Usage has been the same if not less than usual.

Normally, I'd leave it off the charger overnight and it would lose about 5-10%. Only now it would lose about 50% or more overnight. Normally, I can get through a whole day and use 50-60% without any additional charging. Now, I've barely gotten through half a day and down to 30%.

Performance wise, my phone hasn't slowed down. I can use the apps without any noticeable lagging. What the flip is wrong with my phone?!

I'd lose maybe 2% overnight, sounds like an app is active.

Are you travelling or roaming, or in a marginal signal area? Phones searching for cellular connectivity totally kills the battery life.

Don't have Facebook. I do use instagram daily.

I use a combination of wifi and cellular but wifi is turned off unless I need to download an update or browse youtube which isn't often.

I don't know if this is normal... wifi does switch on on its own overnight. I make sure it's switched off before I fall asleep. Regardless, it's been happening before the sudden battery drain.

Do the Standby and Usage times in the settings app differ, or are they the same?

Usage and Standby times are exactly the same.

Settings -> battery

See which app is using it up.

Go into settings and select 'battery'. This will show you battery usage by app.

If there is a particular app draining your battery then this will make it obvious. Otherwise if the distribution of battery usage across apps is roughly proportional to your use of those apps then you may have a faulty battery.

This going to sound odd...
Last I checked my battery usage it looked about right with the expected distributions across the apps I used.
Now I’m trying to check it, the list isn’t there anymore.

Get your battery replaced. Its very cheap for the rest of the year.

Restart the phone, and check again.

Battery usage came back. It’s consistent with the apps I’ve been using - Safari, Quora, Viber and Mail being the major ones.
Anyone get their battery replaced with Apple? How long do they normally take?

Leave the phone over night, and see what's using the battery when you're not using the phone.

As for battery replacement, some AASPs can do it on the spot (paging @cyabro), depending where you are

mojojojo: I don't know if this is normal... wifi does switch on on its own overnight.

That's normal if you toggle it in Control Centre. If you want it to stay off then you need to do it in Settings instead.
