I have an IPhone 6plus locked to KDDI AU Japan. They will unlock iPhones from the 6s and simply will not unlock older iPhones.

The phone is still going great and is completely out of contract etc.

Has anyone had a good experience using a 3rd party to unlock an iPhone, if so who?

Have you tried contacting the carrier directly and asking if they will unlock it?

If you're out of contract, fully paid and you're no longer with that carrier / in that country they may be willing to unlock the device for you.

3rd party unlock on an iPhone is a bad idea cause when you do a software update it will be locked again, Do it via the official carrier

Have you tired updating it with iTunes on a computer?

It may have already been unlocked but it needs to be activated via iTunes to get updated to the unlocked state.
