Hi Geeks, I can’t make up my mind, so would appreciate your opinions:

Option 1: ”As-new” phone from local reseller. Has only been turned on to demonstrate to customers. Includes12 months warranty.

Option 2: Brand new in box from US. 30 days warranty. Good rated dealer.

Prices similar.

All things being equal, which would you choose?

The eBay warranty might only apply in the USA, what happens if it arrives here damaged or not working? Those are the types of things you want to check. It’s possible the US model won’t support all or the correct 4G bands here, something else to consider also, whereas the Trade Me one might be the same version Apple sells in NZ.

How do the prices compare to buying from Apple or a reseller here?

My personal opinion is that if they were the only options I was considering I’d go with the Trade Me option.

Thanks for the prompt response. I would prefer to buy locally for the reasons you suggest, but the eBay option is brand new. The TradeMe phone Is also advertised as new, but has been turned to show customers in the shop.

The eBay phone is about $45 cheaper, but. i can can claim GST back on NZ phone.

The thing that is holding me back from buying local is I wonder about the battery life if it has been a demo model.

Your thoughts?

There are two models sold in the US; A1662 and A1723. The latter is the correct one for NZ.

Yeah I guess that’s what you’d need to check with the seller, just how much use its actually had and what you’d find acceptable for the price it’s being sold for.

For only $45 difference I personally wouldn’t even consider the eBay one.

Can you still claim GST if you buy it brand new from Apple or somewhere else? That could be worth considering too if the price difference isn’t too much.

I guess a lot of it will come down to how long you think you’ll have the phone for before replacing it again, how much use its already had, and how important those factors are relative to the price of buying a brand new one.
