Hey Folks,

Well I am not sure if any one else has noticed this but as of late today 01/09/08 Prepay Data on a 3g iPhone now just works. You don't hve to go to unlockit.co.nz and set the APN. It is just working. I noticed it early but thought I had perhaps done something, but no, it is definelty working on it's own and I have changed no settings. To test it I switched off my wi-fi and I am connecting to sites and recieving emails.

There is nothing on their website about it. Can anyone shed any light on this? Is anyone else finding that Data is now enabled on Prepay?

Cheers

Just tested and posted on another thread..  that YES data works with any NZ sim card on the 3G Iphone now...
so watch out ppl who have prepays

I found a way to stop data but its not a very good official (or even unofficial) solution..

Thanks for confirming, thank goodness I'm not going mad. Well guess we'd better watch out, or that credit is going to disappear pretty quickly. I guess there is a small comfort in the knowledge that my dollar usage *could* only go up by $30.00 per month if I'm careful not to use more than 10MB per day.

I guess the question now is, is this here to stay.

I have found the same thing. I think that this is very intentional. I ran s peed test without visiting unlockit.co.nz and got about 20Kb/s down. But after visiting unlockit.co.nz I got about 1005Kb/s down.
This makes me think that perhaps they have finally given up, but have made us settle for dead slow speeds.

Speed has nothing to do with the APN your using

I'm pretty sure they can throttle back speeds for just the group of people who are using the iphone-vodafone.co.nz APN without a data plan. How else can you explain the HUGE speed difference?
You couldn't even use the iphone-vodafone.co.nz APN until recently is you didn't have a data plan, so obviously they know if you have one.

We need someone that works at Vodafone to answer this.

Not just Prepay, my on account iphone 3g with no data plan started downloading emails today while i was on the motorway
this is the 3rd time its happened.

FYI have never changed the APN

I called Vodafone about it earlier in the day, they said i dont have any data charges on my account and shouldnt be happening,
not that im complaining :)

What did you do John? Tongue out

I can confirm it no longer works, I guess that switch on the wall wasn't for the lights after all

Ohhh, so you do work at Vodafone. Sorry, but are you sure it isn't possible to throttle back speeds of a select group of people? It does seem possible.

Anyway, it's fixed now. but now i have $0.79 left. Can I get my money back please? I had $2.50.
