Hey guys,

I might be a bit niave but I put in a working Telecom Sim card which is currently running on the new Telecom network in my iphone and couldnt seem to connect to the network.

I was under the impression these iphones would work on it but perhaps they require a hack?

We have a phone at work for testing purposes :) no complaints here... using a nice new palm also.

Thoughts?

Telecom have decided that are going to launch a nationwide 3G network, with no 2G network supporting the 3G network.

You may find some 2G sites still active, but these are all beig replaced with WCDMA850 gear.

Ahr I see... thats why it use to pop up in the carrier section but no longer does. So in theory the new 3g version should work then?

I'm assuming when you say "working" Telecom SIM you mean a Telecom/CSL roaming SIM? If so these will not work.

You will only be able to connect if you are an official beta tester.

I'm hoping I can take one home to see if the reception is better than what I get from Vodafone.. and if it is I'm switching!

Ok, I assume you are saying that Voda's 2100 MHz coverage it not extensive enough for your needs, but Telecom is rolling out nationwide 850 MHz WCDMA, which will provide similar coverage to the current CDMA network.

Voda are in the process of rolling out WCDMA 900 MHz which will likely achieve something similar, however your iphone doesn’t support this frequency.

Hi there,

no thats not what i meant.

What I did mean was that the iphones battery is extremly poor. and deserves a bullet.

Having it on 3g the whole time would just kill the battery.

At the moment, I have a mixture of 2g and 3g where i am. And it only JUST fits the job.

so 3g 100% of the time would just be stupid.

At that point, i'd HAVE to get a new phone.

Sorry about that, what I don't know but perhaps someone here does, is the performance with regard to battery life on a lower frequency network any better, i.e. is it due to the nature of 2100 MHz coverage the phone is working overtime to find more 2100 MHz coverage as it travels around switching between 2100 MHz and 900 MHz GSM?
