About NZ metMate
Retrieve the latest weather conditions and forecasts straight from the NZ MetService web site through NZ metMate. Setup the application for any urban centre found on their web site. NZ metMate also integrates the MetService rain radar.

NZ metMate is designed to run like a native application on your home screen (just click the plus symbol on your iphone/itouch to add at the bottom of your browser).

Unfortunately it does not work.
I do like the look of the rain radar screen shot, shame I cannot see the real thing.

Since I have purchased the WeatherNZ app I will stick with it. Also more efficient on data as not loading a web page every time.  Also provides Snow reports, Surf, Tide, Marine, Moon etc

Aah looks like if you run it from an icon on homescreen it worked, but not in the mobile safari browser.

Although rain radar does not load

Agree, but gave benefit of doubt being unaware of correct protocol to announce own apps services

The radar pictures at the moment come straight from the met services web site.

they are rather too big even for their own site .. and hence this might be your issue.

I've got a solution for this, but not yet implemented.

Also google appengine might be causing some issues ... thanks for the heads up.

Also I have a version which works using the html5 stds using cache (offline mode - like google reader), so the app would not pull any data from the internet servers except new radar pics and data, but as apple hasn't fully implemented all the html5 cache aspects, its still work in progress. Also the UIView which I believe apple use to load the web pages into instead of safari take a little longer to load than a native.

Hoping to make a composite app native / web soon when I buy a mac.

btw I also updated the version to have a compressed version .... so maybe the safari cache has got its knickers in a twist....

Less likely since it was brand new activation & installation of iPhone, and had never visited this site before.

once delivered as an app I would consider it, slower to load webpage each time.

Very happy to know about this thanks! I wouldn't have known otherwise.

Great app and my feedback has been emailed to you.

Top of my wishlist is the ability for this utility to be accessible even if I have no internet access (and for it to load the last accessed data).

Currently if I load the app and then 5 min later have no internet access, I can't start the app and view the data from 5 minutes ago.
