I downloaded RedSnow for my iPhone 3G with OS 3.0, followed all the instructions and ended up with a blank phone that I had to restore through iTunes. Nothing lost as I had sync-ed everything but slightly concerning, didnt want to end up with a brick!
Not sure what I did wrong or if I need to wait for an updated Redsnow version. I wanted to install Cydia etc to be able to use an app I bought to use the camera as a video recorder.
3G 3.0 upgraded from 3.0 beta, jailbroke with RedSn0w. No problems, battery life same as 2.2.1 (afaik); tethering and MMS work with profile from this forum.
spk18; are you sure you waited long enough for the jailbreak process to work, before you tried to interact with your phone?
I have used redsn0w on my iPhone 3G running 3.0. Battery life seems the same (and with a cydia package you can have battery % showing).
The only problem I have is that on my phone it says I have 30 applications to update, but they are all up to date and installed. This doesnt seem to go away, im not sure where the number 30 comes from as there are alot more apps on my phone.
rossmnz: interesting as many people have reported reduced battery life!
I suspect that people are playing with their phones more once they get a shiny new OS, hence reduced battery life ... Normal service will resume once ppl get bored. Put it this way, no one whose experience and technical ability I rate has reported it. YMMV, I guess...

perhaps i could have waited longer i guess - it was saying that it was rebooting but it never did, well at least after 10 mins so i figured something was up and disconnected. how long did it take to install on your phone? thanks for the tip by the way.
the other point i should note is that I am using windows version... silly me i neglected to see the Mac OS in the subject line... DOH
