Hey guys wants the best network to go with. Right now I am with 2d but I need 3g so is it better to swich to telecom or vodafone?

XT - my iPhone receeption on Vodafone here in Dunedin is terrible...

The problem with Vodafone is you only get 3G coverage in cities (and the odd town) because the iPhone does not support the 900MHz WCDMA band used by Vodafone. If you want to take full advantage of the data capabilties of the iPhone you are best to use XT as it uses the 850MHz WCDMA frequency nationwide.

The iPhone is a 850/2100MHz device. Telecom XT is 100% 850MHz so you get 3G everywhere on XT. Vodafone is 900/2100MHz so obviously you only get 3G on Vodafone if you are in the main centres. The iPhone doesn't do 900MHz.

So no one is smoking anything, just being logical.

I would only go with VF if you wanted a subsidy on the device.

But if you ever plan on leaving the city then no question... go with Telecom, VF + iPhone is slow enough on 3G most of the time and when you are on GPRS they say its dial up speed but its probably actually 1/5 of that and its not even worth trying to use it.

Or you could get one of those HTC phones? Aparently they go good on VF and cheaper than the iPhone as well.

Yes XTs operating freq is better suited to the 3G iphone

This is an entirely debateable statement, but based upon Telecom's removal of the claim that XT offers 97% population coverage and the fact Vodafone 3G does offer 97% population coverage one could say that it's incorrect.

What is true is the fact the iPhone offers better 3G coverage on XT than Vodafone simply because the iPhone does not support the 900MHz 3G frequency used by Vodafone.

XT for geeks, Voda for everyone else. People underestimate Voda's 2100 coverage, so check the coverage map. Also remember, voda 3G network has been in operation since 2006 and is the official carrier for the iphone.
