Yep, a quick visit to http://www.apple.com/nz confirms it is coming in July!

International pricing has been set:

Of note: "In Australia, iPad with Wi-Fi pricing is set at AUS$629 inc GST for 16GB, AUS$759 inc GST for 32GB, and AUS$879 inc GST for 64GB, while Wi-Fi + 3G models will sell for AUS$799 inc GST for 16GB, AUS$928 inc GST for 32GB and AUS$1049 inc GST for 64GB."

The iBooks app also to be released internationally 28th May.

I wonder if international units will ship with iPhone OS 4? Isnt July around the launch time for this?

Glad I didnt buy a $1145 unit now - I think I can wait till July.

My interpretation of the information available so far is that it will be 'available' locally in July, implying that the initial stock will be in at that stage. So, there's every possibility that pre-orders may start next month.

I was originally thinking that I would get one from Australia but it looks like my next trip over there will be in a couple of weeks at which point the product won't be available yet, and I don't know when I'll be going back over there again after that so I think an NZ sourced unit is now looking like the better option for me.

Once local pricing is announced we may see some order to the extortionate 'opportunity' pricing from importers who claim to be providing service as a courtesy to kiwis (with pricing at a premium).
After May 28, With low price of AirNZ seat only fares to Aus you could get a trip to Sydney and collect cheaper than order online from some of these, with benefit of also claiming the GST via TRS on way way home. That extra would fund a nights accommodation. Checked a CHC-SYD return for $258 nzd inc taxes

Cannot agree more as did not think it world be that much better than an iPhone, and for those who say it is just a giant iPod touch, give them an hour with one and ask them again

I have to admit that I had limited enthusiasm when the product was first announced back in January, but over time I've started to see a lot more value in it to the point where I have now made a firm decision to buy one. Steve Jobs himself said during the original presentation that you really have to use one to fully appreciate its utility.

+1, I was the exact same mindset as both of you.

I can see myself gaming a lot more on the iPad (some of those games look awesome on the big screen), I just find the iPhone's screen to be too small to get any real enjoyment from playing games on it, and I know for a fact an iPad will replace a lot of what I use an iPhone for around home, especially at night when lying in bed such as web browsing, YouTube and media playback. I've set myself up a US iTunes account, so combine the TV shows found on there, and the iBooks and Kindle apps, and I'll be using it a lot more as a media device.

I really did believe that at launch it was just a giant iPod Touch, but having watched its development over the months and considered its functions and seeing them in action, I'm now at the point where I know I have a niche that an iPad can fill for me, and can't wait to get one!

What, you didn't realise you have to pay GST on stuff you bring back from overseas, regardless of the fact that the NZ Government has exactly nothing to do with providing the good or service?

GST only collected if the value is greater than $50 and Customs choose to collect it. Your post has made it appear that paying GST will be collected regardless, which isn't the case.

What he meant is that when you spend more than AU$500 in a single retailer in Australia you can collect the Australian GST when leaving the country, by presenting the products and GST receipt at special locations in their international airports.

I know in South Australia the TRS (tax refund on any item) threshold is $300. So anything you purchase $300 or over you can claim back the 10% GST at the airport.

I know its off topic but wouldn't you get hit by NZ customs/gst etc when you brought the ipad back in? esp. if it over the NZ $700 mark

It's always a possibility. In any case the amount collectable has to be greater then $50, but it will only be collected if you declare the offending item(s) and Customs choose to collect it.

Or worst case scenario, you don't declare the stuff and they search your bags for whatever reason and then find it, then they'll take it plus probably add on a fine!

I don't know how strictly they police this, I travel a lot and have never had any problems bringing things in, but at the same time I know that on any trip I could be told to pay the GST component.
