I bought a really cool Porsche replacement back for my new iPhone 4, and as a result I obviously don't want to cover it up. However, I do want to get some protection for my new baby, so I'm thinking a bumper may be the way to go. I was thinking of getting the official Apple bumper, but have heard reports from users that it is prone to scratching the metal rim of the iPhone, due to particles getting caught under the bumper. Does anyone here have experience with these bumpers, and can comment either way on this?

Alternatively, does anyone have any recommendations for other good bumpers (or cases which don't obstruct the design on the back)? I purchased an iLuv silicone bumper from Harvey Norman on the weekend which seemed to fit the bill nicely, but once I had it installed I found that it was extremely slippery, so decided to return it.

The bumper is good but they should have made it a bit tighter, it does move a bit and can cause you to unintentionally lock the phone. The scratches aren't bad or deep, generally, kind of buffs it places to give it a slightly different finish.

Thanks for the feedback. I've also found this one today. The price looks good, and red is a lot less boring than the black bumper I'd be getting if I got the official one (the other available colours aren't even worth considering ;-))

Will do. This also looks promising. Its not a bumper as such, but has a clear back. May be worth it to keep my new Porsche back in pristine condition :-)

Found a local retailer for the Gecko Vision case. $28.29 with free delivery and an anti-glare screen protector. I think we may have a wiener :-)

Griffin reveal has a rubber bumper and clear back, any case with a clear back will be prone to terrible scratching if kept with keys etc

I use the reveal and love it

I went with the Gecko Vision, and have a couple of gotchas to look out for.

Firstly (and most importantly), despite the claim of "scratch resistant Makrolon polycarbonate, the back scratches very easily. I've had it on for less than a day, and the back is covered in scratches. Most of these are from simply resting it on my desk. Not sure where they're getting ther definition of "scratch resistant" from, but it certainly doesn't gel with my expectations. I can live with it for now, but can only imagine how its going to look in 6 months time.

Secondly, it can be a little difficult removing the iPhone from the case. This isn't so much of an issue for me, but it may be for others who need to do this in order to use their phones in case unfriendly accessories.
