Hi,

I am considering getting an iphone 4 before I head to Europe, but want to know how difficult it is in different countries to get prepaid microSIMs. I have searched high and low on the internet and am finding this information incredibly difficult to find, although that could be because I am quite ignorant about iphones and technology in general!!!

I will be going to Spain, Portugal, UK, France, italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Switzerland, and perhaps some other countries. I will probably spend a few weeks in each country, maybe longer in France. So far I've worked out that the UK is pretty good, but France is quite tricky (i.e. they require you to have a French billing address etc).

Does anyone know anything about this, or has taken their iphone 4 to Europe before?

Any help is appreciated!

Hi Rachel welcome to Geekzone!

The iPhone 4 is available for sale in all of those countries, meaning there'll be at least one telco that sells micro-SIMs.

Vodafone has a presence in the UK, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Spain so I'm sure you could stick with them in each country just to keep it simple.

In the other places it might just be a case of waiting until you get there and going into phone shops to sort something out.

I'm assuming you'll be starting in London? If so I'd go to Vodafone there and explain what you are intending to do and I'm sure they could give you the best advice, they have roaming plans across Europe which I'm sure you could use as a backup until you were able to get hold of a micro-SIM in each country you visit.

I am heading to France for 3 weeks with my iPhone 4 and have been looking for the same information.

Alternatively , you could invest in one of those microsim cutters that cut down a normal sim to microsim size (or, mark it out and cut with a good pair of scissors).
