There must be some very fundamental things I don't understand about Appleworld, iTunes etc.

I am trying to put some music videos, ripped from DVDs that I own, onto my iPad. I can do it OK but the clips end up in the iPad's 'Videos' folder.

Is there any way I can get them go into the 'Music Videos' folder in my Library in the 'iPod' player part of the iPad? i.e. along with where all my mp3's are stored (but obviously in the Music Videos folder, not the 'Music' folder/library)?

I have googled this to death but it's very hard to follow due to the similarity, but quite different meanings, of the terms used i.e. 'Videos' v 'music videos'.

In itunes right click on video >get info>options tab>media kind

This is one of my pet peeves with iOS. I have a stack of videos that I've purchased through iTunes but I can't play them within a playlist - they have to be played one at a time. I'm yet to find a solution.

Yep - the very reason I want them in 'iPod > Music Videos' is so that I can play them from a playlist, and hopefully shuffle them.

I think it can be done if you have purchased the videos from iTunes. From googling I saw that if you make the first item in the playlist a music/mp3 track, then the rest as video tracks, it will work. Have you heard of this? I can't try it because I have no music videos in 'iPod'.

You sound knowledgeable on this - is my wish to play my own, i.e. non-purchased, music videos using 'iPod' rather than 'Videos' not a starter? I have seen info that looks like it will do what I want (eg using Wondershare iMate) but when I try it, no go.

To be honest I'm not really a whizz. As far as I know there is no straightforward solution, and because I bought the iPad for it's simplicity I'm very reluctant to fumble about with awkward workarounds. Hopefully Apple will do something to address this in a future software update!

Just found out there's an app called Video Playlist - Lite version is free, full version NZ$2.59. Sounds like it does exactly what you and I are wanting. Will give it a go and report back.

Well, the Video Playlist app works. I had to futz around a bit fixing up some metadata (album name, artist name, but done in groups per album so not too onerous) because of the way the ripping had come out. Then had to make them all show up in one of the main 'iPod' libraries by editing in iTunes on the PC. Then sync PC iTunes to iPad.

Once that's done you can add the video tracks to a playlist on iPad, hit the shuffle button, and then the shuffled list will play. It seems that if you don't re-shuffle the list each time you want to watch it, it will play in the old shuffled order.

But it works which is sorta cool - actually it's really cool. This is something I have wanted to be able to do on our home theatre/AV set-up for years.

So looks like your pet peeve can be overcome. But this really should be a native option in iOS.

Did you use the Video Playlist app or some other method? Does Apple TV have something built-in?
