hi,

Can you please help me i need to get the personal hotspot feature on my iphone4(from NZ) to work with my 2degrees sim.

I'm using firmware 4.3.1
The personal hotspot feature did not appear when i upgraded at the beginning.
After i went into:
Settings--> General--> Network --> Cellular data Network

and changed two options:
Cellular Data
APN to www.vodafone.net.nz
and
Internet Tethering
APN to www.vodafone.net.nz

Now i get the personal hotspot option showing up. Is this the right way of doing it? Or will i be charged extra for going directly through vodafone's APN?

Also on 2degrees i have nationwide data (50mb part of my monthly plan)
and national data (1GB)

The lady at 2degrees said that the nationwide data will be used first then the national data pack after. Is there a way to change the settings so that i can use National data first and preserve my nationwide data for later?

Even if you're roaming on Vodafone you still need to use 2degrees settings

the APN should be : internet

and it should work

If you're in a 2degrees' mobile broadband zone this data should be used first.

Thanks The internet APN setting works like a charm :)

I thought so too but it was definitely using the 50mb National Data (part of my monthly plan) first then the Mobile Broadband Zones data second.

And i live around Auckland CBD. Maybe because i did not have Data Roaming enabled?

For some reason, and I don't know why but someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I have this feeling that in order for the phone to use data when in a 2degrees broadband zone the APN must be set to 'internet', like others have said, otherwise it continues to use your national data pack regardless of where in the country you are.

Either way, now that you've changed the APN check your usage again and see if that's fixed it.

The 2degrees T&Cs clearly state that when you have a national pack and a 2degrees pack, the 2degrees data will be used first when inside one of their zones. See point 16:
