I recently brought a Vodafone iPhone 4 off trademe. I put a 2 degrees sim card in the phone and it said sim not compatible, put in a sim that came with the original carrier. Phone works great on Vodafone but it is locked so no go on 2degrees. I took it into every store I could eventually getting Vodafone to send it back, replacement came and same issue. Vodafone say they don't lock phones and then say we don't promise they will work on 2degrees. iPhones work on 2degrees so Vodafone is doing something to these before they come out. My 2degrees sim works in my mates Vodafone iphone4. Just seems to be their replacement iPhones. So help how do I unlock my iPhone through a company that refuse to believe it is locked.

Is your 2 degrees sim a genuine micro sim or a cut down one?

Have you tried other sims from 2 degrees or Telecom in the phone?

Have you tried ringing 2degrees at all? Could possibly just be a sim issue or that the phone may of been reported stolen and blocked by 2degrees? I wouldn't say the phones locked at all.

My understanding was that 2degrees do not and cannot block phones.

Sim is official micro and works in other iPhone 4 phones, i have tried other 2degrees cards in the phone and it gives same message, phone is inoperable with sim in it. It did accept a telecom sim, the skinny website says the imei number isn't compatible. I can't jailbreak as it is running latest software. I have done multiple restores

Phone is 5.1 baseband 4.12.01. I have talk to vodafone telecom and two degrees. There is definitely no problems with sim as it works in other iphone 4 phones. I have even tried putting in 2degrees settings into the cellular data with a vodafone sim inserted and then switch the sim, still nothing.

Tried resetting all of the settings? Try removing the sim, reboot, switch off, install sim, switch on. This worked for me yesterday when I had a similar issue.

I have moved this topic to the generic Apple iOS forum since I don't believe it's a Vodafone problem (where it was originally posted).

You said you bought from Trade Me... From the start I am not sure this is an original Vodafone device then, unless you've seen the original invoice.

As said Vodafone does not lock handsets in New Zealand, and you say a Telecom SIM worked, so this is enough to show it's not locked.

Vodafone confirm it was from them hence replacement which is a new 16gb iphone 4 from vodafone. Resetting the phone does not work. I have tried rebooting with card in and out restore with card in and out. Nothing.

Message when 2degrees sim is inserted
only compatible sim cards form a supported carrier maybe used to activate iphone

Phone is definitely locked to some extent. This message normally comes up on at&t phones when other sims are put in.

This sounds like the issue that you are having: https://support.apple.com/kb/TS3198. It has the same message as you mention.

I understand vodafone don't lock their phones yet both of these replacement phones don't work on 2degrees, what else could it be?

First phone purchased on trademe as an insurance replacement, second phone replaced by vodafone... same issue.

Codyc1515 This is what I believe has happened but vodafone refuse to unlock the phone to complete this process as they say the phone is not locked in the first place. I say it is locked they say it is not.

This sounds like this... And as posted above. 2degrees is not a supported operator, can't you use a Vodafone or Telecom SIM to activate the phone and then swap with your 2degrees SIM?
