Has anyone else had the problem I'm having of itunes not downloading latest software update for iPhone? I've got an iPhone 3GS and trying to upgrade using a cable connected to itunes on my iMac running snow leopard. I've cleared the phone out so there were 6gb free. Any other ideas / tips??

Thanks.

I also had this problem. The phone was on the iOS 5.1 beta 3 previously, was yours? In the end I downloaded the update file from here and then option-clicked the Update button in iTunes to select that file manually. Keep in mind the file will be larger being the full update and not the OTA one.

Maybe the update is not for the 3GS (I am guessing) Have you checked?

Strange, I think they are slowly rolling it out. You can get it form there in the meantime. By chance, what ISP are you using?

Vodafone Broadband? If so, I had the same issue and I never used to have it on Telecom (could be a caching issue, I had problems with that recently).

Yea voda homeline & broadband. Interesting. I don't remember having trouble with any of the other updates. Maybe it's time to upgrade...

I am on TelstraClear and I cannot get the download on my iPhone or iPad. Neither OTA or plugged into my Mac will work. Keeps saying cannot connect to iPhone Software Update Server. I have never had this problem when getting previous updates.

Frustrating!

I wonder if the download servers are getting slammed causing issues?

If that were the case then how did I manage to download it manually yesterday?

I just went into General Settings on the Phone -> software updates and it downloaded and installed it directly on the phone (2 x iPhone4 running 5.01). Did not need iTunes. It only recommended I plugged it into power during the upgrade in case the battery went flat.
