Hi Everyone

I updated my iphone to 3.0 when it came out and then tried to jailbreak the phone and it failed for some reason so i had to restore it to factory defaults! i then found that itunes 8.2 wouldnt accept the carrier bundle! i did a whole lot of searching and found you could re-enable the carrier bundle importing in iTunes 8.2 by doing the following

_____________________________________________________________________________________

How to Enable Carrier Bundle Support in iTunes 8.2 in Windows.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Step 1: Quit iTunes

Step 2: Press Windows Key + R to open the run dialog. Enter in cmd then click OK

Step 3: Enter the following command into the Command Prompt window.

"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

Step 4: Connect your iPhone and click to launch iTunes from your Start Menu.

Step 5: Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left then hold down the Shift key and click the Check for Updates button.

Step 6: Now you can now select your .ipcc file as it is not greyed out

Step 1: Quit iTunes

Step 2: Click to launch Terminal from the dock or from the Applications:Utilities folder.

Step 3: Enter the following command into the Terminal window:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Step 4: Connect your iPhone and click to launch iTunes from the dock.

Step 5: Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left then hold down the Option key and click theCheck for Updates button.

Step 6: Now you can now select your .ipcc file as it is not greyed out

I then used the pwnagetool to create a custom ipsw and re-flashed it to my iPhone and was able to install the carrier bundle without any probs.

Hoping for a definitive answer to the following question. As this thread get's longer I am losing track of whether or not the following will work.

NZ new iphone, non jail broken, running on XT and installed the carrier file under 2.2.1 with no issues. Have upgraded (as instructed) and not restored to 3.0 and everything continues to work well and fine.

I have a successful back up of things working well in 3.0 on XT. If I now RESTORE my phone will the XT settings be lost? Will they come back if i then use my 3.0 back up or will they need to be re-installed through iTunes 8.2 with the hack described to allow 8.2 to accept carrier files?

Hope this makes sense.

Anyone know if this XT Carrier pack will work on the new Iphone 3G-S? Any reason it wouldn't or only made for 3G hardware?

If you restore you will have to re-apply the carrier settings.

Not sure if it will work on the 3GS at this stage as there is no one to test it. But i'll let you know in a few of weeks :P, talking of which anyone want to buy a 3G 16Gb white iPhone?

im upgraded to 3.0 i had the same problem with txt msgs not showing up as the contacts.. just showing +64 27 blah blah etc.

So i edited ALL my contacts to have +64 and now when people CALL me it shows the number as 027 or 021 so it doesnt match and thus doesnt show who was calling.

Anyone found a way around this? no clue why it suddenly wouldnt req contacts for txt after the update?

help!

Just got my 3GS from Melbourne. Downloaded the bundle and seems to work fine on my XT SIM.
MMS + tethering OK. A quick speedtest gave 5Mbps down and 0.2 Mbps up.

which store did you get your iphone 3gs from... ?? and how does it work with XT sim?? :P
thought it was locked in australia???
i am heading over to australia myself in a week time... and was thinking of getting it there as it may be cheaper due to gst return at the airport etc... but because of it being locked.. thought it was not really possible to use it here....

would you mind explaining a bit more what you meant on your response to the thread...???

thanks

I got it from the Apple Store in Chadstone, Melbourne. They only had 2 32GB White left so got one of those. Prefer Black but I need a case anyway so no big deal.
If you buy from the physical Apple Store the phones are NOT locked. I found when I turned it on I had to plug it in to iTunes and go through a process before I could use it, but that was simple.
If you buy through Telstra, Optus, Vodafone AU, etc you will have to buy it on contract and it WILL be locked.

When you leave Aus you go to TRS and get the 10% tax back like you say.

Seems to work sweet on XT SIM. Only had going since midnight last night so not sure I tested everything fully.

Here's what does work so far (I have applied NZBullets XT iphone bundle):
- XT Logo
- Calling
- Voicemail (not Visual Voicemail)
- MMS (only tested to myself though)
- Tethering via USB
- 3G
- All apps work as expected. Email, Maps, Safari, etc.

Any other questions I can check it out.

so when you bought from the apple store... obviously did not come with sim card?? and did they tell you that the phone is unlocked??
have you tried it with any simcard from aus at all while you were there? and then with telecom xt???

http://www.apple.com/au/retail/iphone/

This link may help - it does seem to suggest that outright purchase is possible. There is no indication of whether it is locked or unlocked.

The question is how much did you pay??? No pricing information on Apple's site.
