Although perhaps they will keep the 4S formfactor and call it the 'classic' or something, and possibly with the newer features of the 5. People do like the current size as you can access the entire screen with just your thumb while holding it in one hand. This isn't possible with larger screens.

Rumour Has It (Is that Adele??) that the 3GS is going, 4 becomes entry level, 4S mid level, 5 is new model.

While I find the taller form factor a nothing, if the screen is lowered, and "highered" you can still probably reach the top row of icons.

A different screen aspect ration is going to be a pain for devs. And fairly useless for the first while until they get some apps updated.

Personally, I don't see much benefit in a 16:9 screen.

I believe they want to stick with the compact format so changing the aspect ration is the best way to add more screen realestate whilst minimising the form-factor variation.

And if they're bold enough to do it and drop 'the-button' think of their marketing... '25% larger screen size in a handset thats less than 5% longer'.... how innovative is that.

Yes I think it'll be a percentage game. Small % changes in size, (and price), large % gain in screen size, and small % weight (and wait) change. It'll be a proving form factor for the iterations into the next generation which will also include a smaller ipad with the same aspect-ratio screen.

Case manufacturers have already leaked their products.

It should be a taller iPhone 4S(4 inch screen likely), with a smaller dock connector, and possibly the headphone jack on the bottom as well.

I get many comments from 4 owners about my 3G being a nicer shape and feel vs the clunky brick aspect of the 4. Apple must know about this aspect as well.

A return to traditional rounded edges (vs the 4's rounded corners) would be really nice, but I'm not predicting it.

It could be the original idea at 4 was a unified style range of devices with the 4 edge style and then abandoned with good reason.

I like the clunky brick design of the 4/4S, metal finish. I also like the weight. Not keen on a look alike mini skyscraper phone though, thats what the rumour mockups look like

I believe a move to 16:9 is quite likely as the actual form factor of the phone suits many peoples hands (curved back is a 50/50 call, but I don't see it happening). While developers may not like a screen ratio change, frankly, Apple won't care. Things change, the world evolves... and while some people may whinge re: their app initially, I think they'll get over it pretty quickly.
A new dock connector is quite likely in my eyes, and frankly, it's time for me to buy a new sound dock anyway (yay, getting rid of my cruddy one).

I dont see that aspect ratio and resolution change being an issue at all actually. Ipad came, has 2X scaling option to get apps on it, rest is history. Far less an issue with a modest change in resolution from 4/4S to 5. A key factor is not I feel that Apple doesn't care, its that as they own the whole eco system, it is far easier to manage, for them and for devs. Soon the iPad which is a young device will have 3 resolutions. One could argue that fragmention has blown out for Apple % wise, but in reality its just a handful of different resoltuons after all.

Dock connector has had bad press on my US iPhone/iPad forum, but thats all a bit silly. My only concern is that the wide dock is sturdy. But its a change to save room. There will be cheap adapters on day one I'm sure.

Yes, it is live, not sure if we can get live video here, but you can go to Engadget, Verge, twit.tv for a live text feed.
