Thats because it seems some foxconn employees decided to have a riot. First rule about fight club.. You don't talk ?about fight club.

They're not made where the riot occurred.

Was the same thing last year...Apple do this to allow the retailers to get first whack at it. Usually Telecom/VF will get new stocks in 2 weeks after first launch.

and...Apple knows exactly how many they will sell each time a new iphone launches, and i am quite sure threir warehouse stocks will be sufficient.

Apple have always treated NZ inferior to Australia....guess thats because Apple is in Aussie and not NZ and Aussie is a larger market.

Until Apple get start losing market share this will always be the way.

based on the last two years the NZ stores have always had stocks to sell before the first apple shipments arrive to online purchasers. Keep your eyes open, but I would suggest that next week some could be available for outright purchase(as I said based on previous years). I believe Telecom will have more stocks for postpaid only toward the end of the week.

Remember that the only people who make money out of iphone sales is Apple! So, naturally retailers will want to sell 2 year plans.

I was surprised at the not unreasonable (for NZ!) plans on offer from VF.

My phone is on contract and so it was not a problem for me to re-sign. Although I am paying $120 a month I was paying almost that before anyway most months and, considering I got the handset for nothing up front, once you lop off the $1100 or so that would have cost me, I will actually be paying less per month ($75 or so) for my mobile calls than I was before I got the phone and VF effectively loaned me $1100 for 2 years at no (specific) interest.

I sold my iPhone 4 for $550 to boot, so if I manage that with this iPhone 5 in 2 years when I do the iPhone 6 upgrade then that will be a nice bonus.

Downside is that the plan is not - in some ways - as nice as the one I had. I had free landline calls (all of them!), free calls to my wife's mobile and free VM. I must admit it does annoy me being charged to access my VM (especially since it STILL is not visual VM years after that became available elsewhere in the world) - why that can't at the least be taken out of my included 400 minutes I really don't know. It just looks like penny-pinching to me.

The 2 Gb of data is at least a useful amount now and will save me having to buy extra when I am away on the road.
