I really don't see a gap in the market for a mini tablet. They can't expect to sell many can they? With a saturated tablet market.

No where near saturated, hence the mini, and Microsoft with the Surface.  I'd be interested how Apple will position the mini, not just a smaller iPad.

i suspect the mini will be on every kids wish list for Christmas. Perfect for smaller hands.

Apple is going to make another fortune with this.

Agreed. So long as it is priced right. IIMHO it has to compete with the Nexus7 and be around $429-$449

Only 10 million units initially!

8 inch screen is not exactly mini, I actually think it will be a viable alternative to a full sized Ipad if all the other parts are equal.

Jaxson:

Love it. I guess I should of said 'I' don't see the need for a mini tablet personally. This is going to bite so bad when they sell 10 million in the first week lol.

I think it will cannibalize the ipod touch at the current ipod touch pricing. Although I don't think apple really care too much about the ipod touch, as they do use older gen and inferior hardware on it, compared to new iphones and ipads.. This new model ipod touch is higher quality than the previous ones, with the same screen as the new iphone, but it does also cost more than the previous model. But apple treat the mini a bit like the ipod touch, by putting cheaper older gen hardware into it to maximize their profits and keep the cost down.

wellygary:There is also some?speculation?we may see an iPad 3 update to replace the old 30pin dock connector with the new lightning port.

I think there will be a new ipad too with the new dock connector and possibly the A6 processor. It means that they can then also extend out the next big ipad update for another year.

WTF you were right! except A6X processor.

Bugger them keeping the Ipad 2 and not filtering down the Ipad3 :(

I feel so let down with the announcement of the newER iPad this morning. Around six months ago I bought my iPad 3, and the 4th generation one is already here? Even though the new model isn't a dramatic upgrade in terms of functionality from the 3 (not enough for me to upgrade), I am still disappointed. I never thought being an early adopter of an Apple product would end up like this.

what's the difference between the new ipad and the newer ipad apart from you can't connect to docks anymore?

I hear that, and to be honest I would be VERY upset had I purchased an Ipad3 recently, I am now 99% going to go with the Ipad 4 when I travel next year, that is unless they special the Ipad 3 soon.

For me the mini doesn't have the punch I wanted.

the new model isn't an upgrade. it's a smaller version.  I prefer the 10 inch over the ipad mini

ETA: sorry, I thought you were talking about the mini. not the semi-upgrade of the 3

How does the upgrade to the ipad make your existing one worse than it was?

Terrible Apple for continuing to release new products??

I have an ipad 2 and the release of three subsequent ipad models has not affected my ipad one little bit.

If you are upset at company's releasing new models with any frequency at all, then you probably need to take a close look at how business and technology actually work.
