Possibly , but HOW can I confirm it is a 3G rather than a 3GS ?? in which case I may just accept the improbability/impossibility of any upgrade ios . ?? !!! cheers
I understand what you are describing , BUT in the table of the source of the 4.3.3 ipsw file that I downloaded to use , there was a column which ( I think ) indicated that a baseband upgrade to 6.15.xx was part of the deal to use the ipsw files. Further researches suggested that if I do that I will lose the GPS . Interestingly the GPS works perfectly well without a internet connection .... so I can't really understand how a baseband change can affect it .
I infer that the o5,xx,xx baseband is some how an impediment to comms with Apple approval for a new ios ..... somehow the same as that scenario which persuades folks to upgrade using the iPad baseband trick . cheers
The iPhone IPSW files generally include an updated baseband - if you create a custom IPSW you can preserve the baseband.
The 6.15 baseband is from the iPad it is not from the iPhone whenever you see it on an iPhone it's been installed by a 3rd party not apple.
The only reason to install the ipad baseband on an iPhone is to network unlock the phone there is no other benefit and yes it screws up the GPS for the simple reason that the baseband is from the ipad which has different gps hardware.
Ah , hat's helpful , about the baseband . I MAY try again with a custom baseband ipsw , but I am left with the dilemma of the "instruction" that a baseband upgrade "is"part of the deal . As for the model , since you last post I looked but can see it ..... too small I think , but a Google solution says that the words iPhone , and the gig sizes on the 3gs is brighter like the Apple above it (on the 3GS) , and is not so bright on the 3G . Mine appears to be the former ...... so my impression is that it is a 3 GS The same web site off Google says it is on the SIM carrier as well so I will look !!
which I just did ..... it does NOT have a Model number but does have the IMEI number and the serial number , and the MODEL number (in Settings>General ) is MB489X .frustrating
