jarledb: Its called planned obsolence, you see it all over the place.

Its not really fragmentation, because the apps will work on the devices supported. For fragmentation on smart phones / tablets, see Android.

My comment came across at Apple bashing, it wasnt, it was more voicing my disdain for marketing bullsh1t.

The cooling arrangement on the new Mac Pro makes a lot of sense (one massive fan, running slow, using natural convection) but the lack of [non-thunderbolt] expansion might leave it dead in the water (only professionals can afford a pro, but they won't buy it without the traditional expansion options - I'm speculating here).

New airport extreme/time machine looks pretty funny. Im pretty happy about the bargains to be had on the old model through the refurbished portal though.

Can't wait til Fall (Spring) for the multi-monitor support, hard to believe how long this omission has run on for

i'm disappointed with iOS7, still think its behind android (by a lot, with android widgets, how you can customize it, and all the features in it).

I'm planning on getting 2 or 3 tablets for around the house to control home automation stuff, and was waiting to see what was in iOS7 before deciding between android and ipads. with iOS7 ill just be sticking with android tablets.

ive owned ipad1, iphone 3g, iphone 4, windows phone 8, android phone, android tablet, windows 8 tablet, so im not biased to one company, usually go with what i think is the best or excites me the most.

was really hoping for iOS7 to be amazing, its much easier to find picture frame docks for an Ipad (android devices you need them custom made).

iOS7 ticks all the boxes for me and means I won't have to jailbreak anymore to get the tweaks I want - they've solved that with their new multitasking/control centre/etc.

I'm a big fan of the design aesthetic, it's really beautiful to my eye.

I'm on a S cycle of phone releases, and an iPad 3, so I'm due for an upgrade once the next models are released (be it a 5S or whatever), meaning I'll be able to use iOS 7 as it's intended on tightly integrated hardware.

I don't want to badmouth Scott Forstall at all, he got iOS to where it was and no doubt Mr Jobs was driving the aesthetic of iOS 1-5/6. But I have to say I'm loving the direction things are taking under Jony Ive's tutelage.

I'll be downloading the beta today and loading it up tonight for a play :)

they dont want to tie themselves down to a specific month.

also, using the term 'fall' alienates every country except america and canada since nobody else uses 'fall' to mean autumn, and many countries dont even use english!

I like iOS/Apple, but I am annoyed that they ceased innovation long ago. Thats ok as smart devices matured, anything hardware is largely incremental these days. There are user friendly conveniences that are in Android, which need to be in iOS. Toggles, finally. On every screen. Why not a back button on every screen? Catchup in part I guess. Not seen enough of the flat UI images yet. Nice wee update, nothing more.

It used to be universal that Apple exuded quality and innovation. They still exude quality, but as is stated everywhere they are falling behind. Cannot rely on the brand forever, need to be in the ballpark of what are becoming standard features. iOS + jailbreak = getting somewhere eventually

Agree. I'm ashamed of how many seconds it took me to figure out what month fall was begins. It's a slow morning here

We must remember this conference is in San Francisco, by an American company, timed for an American audience.
It was apparent to me on a recent visit to the US that to most Americans the world begins and ends at the west and east coasts of their great country and even Hawaii is an exotic overseas location.

Seen many different reactions to iOS 7 today. Some people think its ugly, others love it. Its a sure sign they really stirred it up.

For me I agree the icons look ugly, but otherwise I think the update is pretty good. And control center alone is worth upgrading for. Airdrop of iOS is also quite nice. Although I think it sucks that they don't support the iPad 3 with it - its not that old.

And OS-X Maverick will be my next OS-upgrade for the Macbooks. Tabs in finder and better full screen support for multiscreens and the multiscreen to AppleTV is the most important reasons.

Obviously there's a lot more behind the scenes, but there's a point here... Anyone noticed the new "flat" is similar to the old "Windows Phone flat"?

With the speeds we are talking here, there shouldn't be a problem with external expansions like video cards etc, plenty of speed to go around.

Thunderbolt is available for other Intel platforms - the Intel NUC I have here for example comes with one HDMI, three USB 2 and one Thunderbolt.

Note Intel decided to put one Thunderbolt instead of upgrading to USB 3 in their reference platform.

Just give it some time. But it may be a new "Firewire" too and never really catch on.
