Don't think I'll be walking around with an iPad to my ear, like the 80s gettoblaster fad. But SMS I.E. the over mobile network would be good.

blakamin: My nexus 7 3g doesn't have a dialer or a message app.. Probably because it's a tablet and not a phone.

myopinion: How about the TextMe iPad app?

I don't know will have a look

Yeah it can work but not through the sim obliviously its not free like they infer, what is?

You need credits to use (which you can either pay for, or do a horde of spammy surveys etc). It's free for certain functions, but that's predominantly US/Canadian domestic uses.

Look I don't know what I was thinking I like apple gear but it never seems to do what I want!

Oh well back to a samsung

I don't understand why these manufacturers don't bundle a Bluetooth headset to a small tablet that can be used as a phone, even better make the headset dockable into the device

It's a shame apples iMessage doesn't send texts to non apple devices. I'm sure people would be willing to pay a small sub to get this working.

Because an iPhone 5 costs $1049, an iPad mini costs $680.

Why would they destroy their market for phones?

Okay let me put my apple marketing cap on....

7.9" iphone 5+ $1249 :P

I'm no techo but I suspect it doesn't have GSM radio and possibly some other bits it might need to operate as a full functioning phone so by the time this hardware is added, the price point could easily push beyond ip5 so moot point, the existing mini doesn't seem to be able to dully function as a phone anyway

an ipad mini sized phone (with separate headset) would give them something exciting to compete against the likes of the Note's and other large screen androids.

I feel the iPad-phone would cut into iPhone/iPad sales, they prefer to sell you and me one of each. I hope for larger iPhone one day, 4.7 or so, almost bezel free to give a large screen and acceptable form factor. Equals great phone and a great tablet for tablet suitable uses.

The chips are fundamentally the same (i.e. it does have a GSM radio) but the difference is in software.
