That's useful to know thanks - what was the approx. cost for sending it via YouShop? I've been stung a bit in the past, having not been 100% sure of the package's size/weight, so have avoided using it for while. Having some idea would help. Thanks...

I picked up an Astro2 (version 2) recently  - and I'm very impressed:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-note-2/760321-review-anker-astro2-2nd-gen-9000-mah-external-battery-w-pics.html

It has a great feel to it (good solid feel and slightly rubberised surface) and a 9000mAh rating, which seems accurate.
First charge was on an iPad mini (Battery rated at 4400mAh) which left the Astro2 with just over half left.

The LED indicator is brilliant.
It can happily handle the higher requirements of charging an iPad.
I got it on ebay for about $50.

Will the Amazon.com (USA) take a NZ credit/debit card or is a more inventive payment method needed?

They take MY ASB Visa Debit constantly, way to often...way way too often!

If they don't then you can always use the Air NZ OneSmart card ;)

Looking to pick of these up for my girlfriend for christmas, as she leaves for asia for a couple months on boxing day - she's only taking her phone so want to make sure she has enough battery for all of her photos and any emergency communication. I'd hope to spend $100 or less incl shipping and would probably need to be compatible with charging overseas (do they just charge via USB chargers?)

Any ideas?

I can recommend the Bojak 10000mAh. It is very popular in the Ingress community as this is the game that drains your phone battery most. It still charges with screen, data and locations servcies on.

It got two USB ports with 2A and 1 A output plus a display showing the remaining power. And its a NZ company! (;

JBHiFi has them on offer regulary for $99 NZD.

Thanks for your recommendation.  I think this unit will be too big for her as she's only taking one pack with a strict baggage allowance.

There are some Cooler Master units on Playtech with 5600mAh batteries I've been looking at, quite a bit smaller and I presume lighter.
