Are these largely due to memory issues (maybe not the NZ Herald app though)?  I'd be happy if the next iPad has more RAM...

Did you do an over-the-air update? or via iTunes?

Might be worth doing a clean restore of the iDevice to see if that helps.  Sometimes doing an inline upgrade ends up with weird bugs.

My Herald App was crashing well before 7.1.1 (infact, I only installed 7.1.1 yesterday, it has been crashing for weeks on the iPad).

My iDevices are superbly reliable. Dont have NZ Herald app so added it. It ran then shut itself off. Thats a 100% hit. Well, I just started it on my 5S, and second article I went to the app shut off. This is 7.1 on both.

Webapp is fine.

I had a chat with a couple of iOS devs (not me - I ain't that clever).
I believe the problem is with a change in the way iOS deals with multi tasking in the background. Some apps can handle it but others have real issues.

I believe the nzherald is possibly a different case as that seems to be rightly poked

The update was also supposed to improve finger print recognition but I had to re-train mine.

By the way the NZherald App updates available, at last fixed the crash.
