CYaBro:surfisup1000:CYaBro: As an AASP I can confirm that we don't have the option of replacing screens on iPhones in New Zealand.
The only option is a whole unit replacement.
We have had a few people come in that have also been told it would be about $180 to replace the screen but when we called Apple support to ask about this they have said "we thought the customer was calling from Australia."
Mail in repair could be a different story however.
If your iPhone has a single hairline crack, with no other damage to the housing or point of impact on the glass, then Apple may cover the whole unit replacement under warranty, or under NZ consumer law.
That is what my phone has, single hairline crack , no damage to phone. Not even sure how it happened actually, i just went to use it one day and it had this crack. I must have bumped something while it was in my pocket I guess. Still , screens don't just crack without impact so assumed it would be on me.
If what you say is true then definitely talk to Apple or take it an AASP and they will inspect it and advise whether it will be covered or not.
Sounds like it should be though.
It is a $50-$100 inspection fee (something like that from memory), so would prefer not to incur the extra cost and they might just say no anyway.
