Ok,

Tried to kiwi-ise my iphone halfway through the installation it stopped and i got an error. I quit installer tried opening my ipod and just instantly closed tried some other apps same thing happened. I am on 1.1.3, have ssh and bsd sub system installed. Turned my phone of and it is stuck on an endless loop of the apple logo turns of and on. I DO NOT recommend you use this app if you are on 1.1.3 and have used the official dev team method to upgrade...might work on nate trues method not sure..

Hi Dan,

So sorry for the trouble you are having. We have not tested kiwi-ise on either of the soft-upgrades methods (nate true or dev team). I assumed, foolishly, that everyone would have used the proper upgrade method by now (via ziPhone).

I will add a warning to the info in Installer advising that it is not recommened to run this on soft-upgraded phones, just in case the 2 are related. Although, in saying that I don't believe there should be any reason why it does not work on the soft-upgrade. The only real difference between the soft-upgrade and the real upgrade is that the soft-upgrade does not touch your baseband.

Also - it would be great if you could tell me the exact point at which the installation stopped. Did you get to the logo installation prompt? Have you installed any other Caller ID fixes?

If you need help fixing your phone, please PM me and I will gladly help. Kiwi-ise Caller ID has been installed on numerous phones now and works perfectly. I have installed and uninstalled over 100 times during testing without incident.

The problem was that when I backed up the AppSupport file prior to updating it, I was renaming it to create the back-up rather than making a copy of it. I have now fixed this and have run some more tests and even if I kill the process or force an error half-way through, the phone still boots fine. Thanks Dan for bringing this to our attention and I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Everyone - please be aware that, like with any software, there may be the occasional bug. But we try our best to fully test these mods on numerous phones before releasing and there is nothing that kiwi-ise does that will brick your phone.

sackmaster: The callerID fix worked well but the NZ Map & Keyboard update both showed "main script execution failed" any thoughts??

I just uninstalled and reinstalled both packages and they seem fine ...

Please make sure you are running the latest version of Installer (v3.0). Also try refreshing the sources and restarting your iPhone.

The Map icon mod simply uploads a replacement icon to your /Applications/Maps.app/ (and backs up your original). I don't see any reason why this would cause a main script execution failed error other than an Installer issue.

Hope this helps and great to hear the Caller ID fix works well for you

Ok, restored back to 1.1.3 then jailbreaked, activated and unlocked my phone using ZiPhone installed BSD Subsytem and kiwi-ised my phone everything went well.

I recommend all NZ iphone owners to kiwi-ise their phone as it makes the iPhone a lot more compatible with the vodafone network.

Did you use iTunes 7.6.0 or iTunes 7.6.1?

I did wonder this too initially but I don't think ziPhone even touches iTunes. If you open the ziPhone package you'll see there's a file "libMobileDevice742.dylib". This is the mobile device file from version 7.4.2 of iTunes.

Earlier versions of ziPhone required you to download these files and copy over manually.

Hey downhill - glad to hear we've helped :)

To fix your OpenSSH issue you'll need to fool Installer into thinking it's not there. You will need access to your phone so will probably want to use iPhoneBrowser or such-like... I have not used it myself, I have only used an SFTP client, so can't give you the exact instruction, but the file you need to edit (very carefully) is this one:

/private/var/mobile/Library/Installer/LocalPackages.plist

Hopefully you are reasonsably comfortable with tag based files like XML as you need to remove the "" entry for it.

Search for this in the file:

bundleIdentifier
org.smxy.iphone-apps.OpenSSH ...

Once you find it, rather than delete the whole thing (you can do that if you completely understand tags) look for "uninstall". It should look something like this:

/etc/ssh_config
/etc/sshd_config
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.openssh.sshd.plist

/usr/sbin/sshd

RemovePath
/etc/ssh_host_key
/etc/ssh_host_key.pub
/etc/ssh_host_rsa_key
/etc/ssh_host_rsa_key.pub
/etc/ssh_host_dsa_key
/etc/ssh_host_dsa_key.pub

Change it so it looks like this:

uninstall

Then open Installer on your iPhone and Uninstall OpenSSH. What this effectively does is it means that Installer will actaully do "nothing" to uninstall so there will be no error. Installer will then remove that from it's settings and you should then be able to re-install OpenSSH.

Keen to hear how you get on with this! :)

Just one other thing - you will need to install the iBrickr/ziPhone fix from Installer so that you can use iPhoneBrowser (or iBrickr) to access your phone. ziPhone does not install the AFC2 support required for these apps to access your phone.

Thanks Piksel, I ended up doing a similar thing to what you quoted above however I could not get iphonebrowser to go so installed mobile finder and mobiletexteditor onto the iphone (from Ste Packaging source) and then followed this routine...

Using mobile finder copy this file /var/root/Library/Installer/LocalPackages.plist to any directory (for backup)

Then
In mobiletext editor open the original file (/var/root/Library/Installer/LocalPackages.plist)
and with alot of patience erase ALL the block that begins with:

erasing it took 5 mins as it is a slow process, then

Press SAVE

open Installer and install OpenSSH

worked a treat for me.
