I am having similar problems with my 6S+, but I don't think Facebook is the issue because the battery drain still occurs when I totally close the Facebook app. Interestingly the battery drains abnormally quickly when the device is in use, but not when the device is sleeping.

When my new iPhone 8 arrives I am going to run the 6S dead flat, then factory reset it. If that doesn't resolve the issue then I will call Applecare as it still has three weeks of coverage remaining.

I will post here if I make any useful discoveries.

also protip: do not install the facebook app on ios device. it gives rise to some advanced tracking ability to suggest friends even though you guys have zero mutual friend and were just on the same wifi network or been in the similar area
instead, use the web browser version and just make a shortcut to that on desktop

facebook was also the culprit of bad battery life a while ago because they had a bad update

Thank you for that!  I was wondering why FB was suggesting all these people I had never heard of.  What a stupid 'feature'. yell

For my case, that does make sense to me about facebook being the culprit.  But I'll never know for sure.

I was amazed how quickly the battery was draining. But as I say, it wasn't for too long and the problem corrected (probably after updating facebook to a corrected version).

The only times when my battery drains are when signal is poor, or when I'm out of data (presumably the thing keeps trying to get something from the internet).

That said I keep background apps OFF.

THe other thing I can think of is GPS - something might have been allowed to use GPS "At any time, even when the app is not running"

I once used an app called "Here NOW maps". That thing never shuts down unless you shut it down, so it was navigating me all throughout the 5 hr wedding reception and luckily at the end of it I remembered the way back home at 1 am)!

I have been unable to track down the culprit. I deleted FB as suggested but no difference. The battery App is giving no real  useful information. IOS 11 is due in a few days, I think I will ride it out a do a reset and clean install as such then and see what happens.

Not yet as I figured with the new OS due in a few days I would do it then. If the release was further out I would do that now.

A hard reset is easier than drinking water.

Yeah know that, I do that once a week anyway. I was thinking delete/restore. I am doing that on the later this week.

I installed IOS 11 on my iPhone yesterday and today the battery usage seems to be back to normal.
