It will be interesting to see if you and get AppleCare+ or just AppleCare Protection Plan for a refurbished unit. Let me know what options you get if you decide to get AppleCare and it is within the first two months.

Edit: Nevermind, I just looked at the refurbishment process link and it specifically says it is for AppleCare Protection Plan only :/ not worth it unless you are looking to travel with the mac.

And shipped arriving Thursday. And yes got AppleCare+ with it as well.

Why did I think it was coming from Auckland when in fact it comes from Sydney.

Thanks for confirming that you could get AC+. APP is almost but not quite worthless in Aus/NZ, unless you go overseas and need your computer serviced, but AC+ is not a bad little insurance plan, especially if your excess is high :)

What I like about Apple's Refurb store is that it also qualifies for free returns (within 14 days) if you're not satisfied.

As someone that has tried TWICE to move to the new MBP's, I'm still on a 2014 because I cannot STAND the limited 'clicky' travel of the keyboard. If you use an external keyboard.. you'll be fine.. But if you actually depend on this device as your daily driver, do NOT settle for less.. and return it if you don't like it.

Also, word of advice, the first application you should buy and install is BetterTouchTool.

This will immediately solve the first annoyance you're going to find which is 'accidentally' touching the touch bar when resting your hands on your laptop. With BTT you can set up the TouchBar to require the use of a modifier key, for example the FN key in order to briefly toggle touch input on and off.

It also lets you completely customise the touch bar - including moving/removing the ESC key.

Anyway, aside from the keyboard and touch bar - the new machines are weapons so you're in for a treat. Fingers crossed they fix the keyboard with next year's refresh.

Thanks for the heads up, especially about the BetterTouchTool

I already have a very high specked Hackintosh that I use off and on but just need to start learning a lot more about the short cut key strokes etc.

BTT also has great window snapping and trackpad customisations.  It's one of the best utilities on MacOS IMO

Auto unlock alone is a good reason to have an Apple Watch with your Apple computer.

Wonder how long it will be before we see Face ID for Macs as well, or will they stay with touch ID for the Macs?
