I thought I saw that you can buy the airpods 2 without the wireless charging case for $270. So $10 more than the airpods 1

I'm happy to be wowed with some new products sometime, but this update just makes me happy I bought a Surface Pro 6 recently.  Apple is not innovating anymore.  I feel this after 16 years of using their products almost exclusively because I genuinely felt they were the best experience available.  But the quality of Windows 10 and the sheer quantity of hardware options makes has surpassed what Apple is doing in many areas.  

I sure hope something new and unique comes from them soon.

People keep saying this but i really don't know what they mean, are you able to provide some examples, or are people just wanting some new and amazing every 6 months??

I can't believe the price of the new standalone AirPods wireless charging case...you can buy it separately for $139. JUST FOR A CASE.

Doesn't it have a battery inside, as well as bluetooth , wireless charging etc. So there is quite a bit of tech in it rather than just a piece of plastic. My concern with these are that you can't replace the batteries in the earbuds, and have heard that people who own them basically have to buy new ones when the battery deteriorates too much. I would have liked apple to just provide wireless charging to the base model, rather than having two models, one with it, and one without. Apple seem to be falling into the trap of too many different products and options. eg Ipads they are 5 different sizes, iphones there are many different models and sizes now for sale. Isn't that what Steven Jobs did when he returned to apple, was away with different models to make things simple?

Basically, the addition of wireless charging (capped at 7.5w) is it...so I won't be buying a wireless charging case for my AirPods...I also wouldn't replace them with the version with wireless charging when they die, either...I do like them, but wouldn't pay the premium for the wireless charging version. 

Holey Moley A maxed out iMac Pro is 23K, Stick with my my hackintosh for a desktop thank you very much.

I do love my 2018 Macbook pro and 12.9 ipad pro though, can't see myself upgrading for quite a few years to come.

Or does it send that command through the earbuds, which I am guessing have a direct electrical connect to the case at that point.

Only sends a command via the AirPods themselves, so if they're not in the case, the phone doesn't know how much charge is left in it. 

Basically, if you open an empty Airpods charging case, the iPhone doesn't register anything.
