or of course you could also turn off the 3G on the iPhone

THough the Blackberry does seem to last a little longer in terms of battery life on 2.5G with general usage

Agree re the Blackberry battery life, it rocks.

BUT!

It isn't a scratch on the iPhone when you talk about EVERYTHING else. The iPhone costs less to run, nicer interface, typing speed equal, better 3rd party programmes, 3G web.

If battery life is important, ditch the iPhone and get a Blackberry, but be warned, you'll soon get sick of it b/c its SOOOO boring.

couldn't agree more about the iphone being a lot nicer ..

Would take the ipHone over Blackberry any day - though i do wonder about the Blackberry Bold ..

Well it seems like the originator John has gone all quiet on us. I wish he'd come back and discuss this further - personally I think he's crazy spending $750 on IT support for it when this forum, the discussions on the Apple website, not to mention the excellent support material provided by Apple themselves would have been more than capable of helping him narrow the problem down to his MS exchange server.

Mind you, I have a guy who rents some office space of us and he has tech-rickets of the mind when it comes to either his PDA or his laptop, sharp guy otherwise.

Does seem a bit strange though aye.

I think I will put on a new rule to the coming moderators' meeting: if someone uses the forum as a soapbox and don't return to reply to other posts in 24 hours then the discussion will be locked - if not deleted.

I've done this twice this week. Obviously is just someone trying to havbe a few seconds of fame with no reason at all except to troll.

Sorry for not updating earlier - was waiting on a response from Vodaphone.

Anyway - I have a new new phone - big ups to Vodaphone for a prompt turnaround.

The packing slip attached to the new phone says "confirmed-dropping calls. Signal fluctuating"

As I said initially - this is a widely reported fault.

Unfortunately neither the fault description or the repair description discusses the problems of battery life and emails so am not sure if these were hardware problems or not. Incidently, I belive that email issue was probably a memory issue - after a hard reset emails would arrive once and then email function would freeze (with synchronization icon showing) and show a blank screen. We have a broad range of jasjars and Blackberrys in theoffice - all work seamlessly.

In case battrery life is a battery memory issue I am going to leave phone on charger for at least 24 hours for first charge befoire use.

Couple of other i-phone points (in response to comments)

I am an apple fan - I was an early mac adopter (showing my age) and I have a wide range of i-pods. Itunes is my default music player and I belive the best player - espoecially if you have a large library.

If the iphone works as a phone and a pda then I would be very happy. Functionality of the phone is great and additional toys (like Map and weather) are a bonus. Camera (as widely reported) is average but I have always been happy using seperate camera and phone.

If you are considering an iphone be warned about the following. iPhone has all the characteristics of a wet cake of soap - same weight, size and slipperiness. Do not put on any surface that is not 100% flat, do not hold in hand if you have any other items in your hand. Do not rest on top of a pile of papers etc.

Sellecting callers within "contacts" is also a bit hit and miss if you are trying to scroll - "scrolling" will often select contact under your thumb.

Anyway, mnor complaints if phone works. Lets hope the new one does.

I believe the "widepsread" 3G issue is a network one as has been proven in a few labs around the world that have tested the aerial/signal strength. I think the issue is mainly with AT&T's crappy 3G network in the states. Finally something VF NZ seems to have done right!

Well there ya go, not a troll after all, actually a fan!

Lets all pray for VF to boost its 3G signal, for Apple to make available a super powerful battery to extend the life of our slippery soap phone, don't take them into the shower though incase you drop it.

Have you tried using the alphabet scroll on the right hand side of screen to quickly scroll to letter?

Yes, in fact I have it on AC not USB in case that is the issue. The problem with the first phone was actually in reverse. First charge (when I was playing with all the toys) gave me almost 3 days. Battry life decreased from ethere to approx 1 day.

Yes, I find this trickey as well. I try to scroll through all contacts in a "letter" and accidently hit the alphabet and have to start again. Big fingers I think

I got the one piece as it was the only one on offer when I ordered it.

Im not sure which I would choose if I had the choice, I dont really mind the seam at all and the one-piece is supposedly alot harder to put on than the two-piece.
