drdanick: I have found the same thing. I think that this is very intentional. I ran s peed test without visiting unlockit.co.nz and got about 20Kb/s down. But after visiting unlockit.co.nz I got about 1005Kb/s down.
This makes me think that perhaps they have finally given up, but have made us settle for dead slow speeds.

Speed has nothing to do with the APN your using

I'm pretty sure they can throttle back speeds for just the group of people who are using the iphone-vodafone.co.nz APN without a data plan. How else can you explain the HUGE speed difference?
You couldn't even use the iphone-vodafone.co.nz APN until recently is you didn't have a data plan, so obviously they know if you have one.

We need someone that works at Vodafone to answer this.
i already have speed is not apn related.

Ohhh, so you do work at Vodafone. Sorry, but are you sure it isn't possible to throttle back speeds of a select group of people? It does seem possible.

Anyway, it's fixed now. but now i have $0.79 left. Can I get my money back please? I had $2.50.

Speed is not restricted for any APNs

If you wanted to limit the speed over an apn you could do it, but it would be fruitless to limit the speed as the slowest part of the connection is between the handset and the network.

so usually like in most networks your connection is as slow as your slowest component..

My views are mine and don't necessarily reflect that of my employer.
