No different than changing a CD or radio station on an old head unit. It's as much eyes off the road as it takes to change the AC temp. Sure you can say "Hey Siri, call Mike" but don't be surprised when you call George instead because Siri.

I typically only use it for timers and reminders because that's quicker than poking around in the settings. I don't have any issues with it not understanding me.

With that said, I do find it annoying when there's been an iOS update and Siri decides to completely ignore my request and instead give me an overview of new features!

Oh well, looks like Siri will be turned off in my new phone too!

Don't make or receive calls while driving. Can't concentrate on driving and answering technical/service calls at the same time.

Timers, reminders, phone call and for controlling the Tv, lights, garage door, and front door.
also just for general queries that’s quicker than googling manually.

Control my lights, blinds and heating/cooling mostly via 3 HomePods scattered about the house. Also use it to reply to texts while driving using a CarPlay headunit.

I had Alexa for about a year before I got the HomePods and moved to Siri. In my experience, Siri understands both my wife and my commands better then Alexa did.

I use it a lot.

On the way to meet someone with navigation showing. Hey Siri, tell my mate I'll be there in 13 minutes.

Hey Siri, remind me at lunch time to buy James that ergonomic mouse

Hey Siri, when I get home remind me to clean the fish tank.

I just love how reliable it is. I don't have to enunciate my speech at all and it's quicker than firing up the calendar or reminders app to manually type in an entry.

1) Type into a blank note, "I don't have exact location data for James Dean* but he seems to be in the vicinity of Chris Cairns* at 100 Main Street*"

2) Say out loud, "Hey Siri, [Cancel the hey Siri after the tone], where is James*"

3) Go back to the note, select the text in the previously typed note and choose Speak.

*Replace with names and address of your co-workers at the office.

A field of research of mine I do on and off over the years is called NUI (pronounced new-ee). Its about waving your arms about and talking to unseen devices and expecting them to understand.

i have an echo dot with alexa. I use it finding out what the weather currently is. I did ask about when the next high tide might be, however apparently it occurs when the moon is on the other side of the planet. When I asked where the moon currently was I was informed that it is currently three hundred and eighty four thousand four hundred kilometres away. I didn’t ask what direction this might be.

i use Siri to change the volume on my AirPods and playing music.

I use the button, rather than ‘hey Siri’ (as my kids like being idiots with my phone if I do that) and
Set reminders and alarms
call/text my wife
Get directions to ... / take me home (when lost anywhere and heading homeward)
Play “random song” on Spotify/YouTube/Apple Music
Open random app
Ask silly questions (Cookie Monster are my cookies AND I have no friends)

I did need to play with the language settings though, as I’m English South African but spent 8 years In London and 15 years here now... after all that, it works best for me in Australian English? 🤨
Do spend the 2 minutes ‘training’ her to your voice on initial setup though, this makes a big help too!

I use it multiple times a day:

"Hey Siri, stop" (or pause) when listening to music whilst coding (work)

"Hey Siri, take me to XYZ" when driving somewhere, loads the Apple Maps app and sets the directions

"Hey Siri, turn on (or off) lights XYZ" to control the Philips Hue Lights

"Hey Siri, set the temperature of the heat pump to 22 degrees"

"Hey Siri, set a reminder for xyz" (doctors, physios, work meetings, etc.)

"Hey Siri, send a message to zzzz"

"Hey Siri, call zzzz"

"Hey Siri, add apples to my shopping list"

etc.

Only time I used Siri was with a jailbreak tweak that enabled me to set her responses. When asked her opinion of my mate's beloved Tottenham Hotspur football club, she let loose with some foul-mouthed attitude. Oddly enough, she had enthusiastic praise for Manchester United.

(I mark this down as one of the very few times I've had a female do what I told her to.)

Yes- perhaps from IOS 13? Fairly recently anyway. I think you need to turn the functionality on manually, rather than it coming on automatically.

My biggest uses are messaging people while driving (CarPlay), as well as creating Reminders and setting timers.

I am one of those rare folk who have a 99% success rate with Siri (maybe because I don't have a thick Kiwi accent).

The weather stuff is pretty good too – "Hey Siri will it rain today?", to which she responds with "LOL absolutely not, you live in Auckland".

Siri will prompt you for access to Spotify, after that works OK. I cannot get Siri to play from specific playlists.

Does anyone know if Spotify works on the Homepods using Siri now?
