I think about the only thing that mitigates the cost of getting into the Apple ecosystem is the longevity of their hardware and the subsequent software support.

I have a whole heap of iOS devices and a Mac as our home computer, but the only new things are an iPad and iPhone and ATV4K.

Everything else is getting on in years and still works very very well.

I can't see myself upgrading my iP11Pro for a few years - unless they come out with a 10x telephoto/zoom equipped iPhone in the near future.

There’s an existing consortium which has adopted this and BMW are just first to confirm. I’ve seen stories saying that adoption will be quite quick.

That consortium perhaps maybe not considered to be ‘mainstream vehicles’ though.

Thanks for sharing that. It looks like Volkswagen and Hyundai are the only manufacturers that would be considered mainstream or affordable in New Zealand. Hopefully the Japanese manufacturers will eventually come on board, although it took a long time for Toyota and Mazda to offer CarPlay here.

Mmm just bought last weekend the other half 2020 mac pro 13" to replace her 2010 15".

Well since she has used the previous one for 10 years she cant be called a power user.

I expect office will be running for many many years yet.

I have no idea why you would want to stack widgets - if you have to interact with the screen to get to a widget, you may as well just open the app in the first place?

iOS still looks old school and simplistic compared to Android (and you still can't even place an app on the screen in a location where you want it!).

That said, if the rumoured 5.4" full screen iPhone launches, I will probably make the switch from Android just to pick up the smaller form factor as Android manufacturers seem locked in a race to see who can build the largest handset, with no current flagship options under 6" and most pushing well above this.

Add to that the main one for me and a lot of others. Resale value, I don't mind paying a premium on a phone when I know its not going to drop 50% of its value in the first 2 years 😅

For those who like to say that Apple always play the "catch-up" game with features compared to Android:

What I've noticed is yes, there is often a large delay, however the overall experience is more polished and it just works with very minimal bugs.

I'd rather wait for a feature and have it just work as expected, rather than be at the forefront with a hot, buggy mess.

I'm not arguing for, or against any particular OS, this is my humble opinion from my own experiences.

It would be great to make 3rd party apps into widgets. In my case I don’t use iOS calendars but Fantastical.

We're likely to migrate our phones back to apple but over 18-24 months. Mrs Handle has gone down the Mac rabbit hole and I've been enjoying playing around with a Hackintosh as a daily driver. My phone is due for replacement this year so I'll probably end up with her P30 Pro when she gets an iPhone 12. Another 12-18 months after that it'll be time to replace the P30 Pro.

IMO mobile phone software (iOS/Android) is much of a muchness at the moment so I'm pretty relaxed about the timing.

I have to say that the battery on my 11 Pro Max is quite spectacular in the longevity department.

I turn my phone off at night (why waste battery when I am asleep?) and I regularly only need to charge once every other day.

Me too. Also I do not use Mail - I use Newton and Spark. Widgets for them both also please Apple!

I have the Pro max too, i would say my charging habits aren’t the best as the estimated health is at 84%. But for people with older phones like the 7 and 8 series even the xr, would make a lot of people happy
