The best electronic decision I made in 2007 was to see the Light and join the  Temple of Steven Jobs 😀

With TV just be aware that a hardware update/upgrade is well overdue. See this thread: Rumor Suggests New Apple TV 4K With A12X Chip is 'Ready to Ship' which was last updated September 22, 2017.

If you buy a desktop/laptop  product then PLEASE please buy an external drive and activate their incorporated backup program called Time Machine. This has saved my nuts lots of times, including just today for a missing file.

As well  iCloud is a must if you have multiple iDevices & mac's and you want to keep important data sync'd: e.g. Contacts, Passwords, Photo's, Calendar and a few more.

Their are plenty of  techies in these forums for all your questions.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

tdgeek: The Apple app called   Remote is very good. I find the Apple remote fine but the app on the iPhone is better and the bane of searching by using a A to Z keyboard onscreen is a right pane, on the iOS app, just type it

dfnt: If you have an iPad or iPhone and use a password manager you can autofill passwords through your phone or iPad

Otherwise, you can type the password using your phone or iPad rather than using the remote to enter individual letters https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT200107#nearby

RunningMan: Use the Appe TV remote on the iPhone/iPad - much better than the actual remote as it has a keyboard.

Agreed, but clashes with points 2.x below

  2. 👎 With casting, your focus shifts between the phone & the TV. With Apple TV & the remote, it's a similar experience to the traditional TV. You are constantly looking at the same screen.

    1. For people that require glasses for reading, this stops the constant on / off of glasses
    2. Everything is big enough to read on the TV, no squinting at the little screen.

  3. ...
