I can’t see where you turn it on. Do you have to subscribe to Apple Music to see it?

At settings music can only see quality settings for mobile data.

Try restarting your iPhone then go to that section of settings again - it can take some time to show up

If you're pushing things over another lossy codec like bluetooth then the source codec makes a huge difference as you then have 2 lots of "thats not important so I will discard it" decisions on the same audio. Spotifys codec is fine on aux out but really bad over SBC bluetooth, tollerable over AAC bluetooth and fine on apt-x etc. Whereas it seems that google youtube red premium's music is acceptable over SBC bluetooth and about the same source bitrate.

I have always assumed that I could avoid this problem by using bluetooth headphones that support the exact same codec as my audio source. In my case Apple Music is AAC, and my Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 support AAC over bluetooth.

IMO 'Spacial Audio' is a bit of a marketing ploy.

I assumed that it would be similar to Apple's real Spacial Audio feature for ATV+ (where you move your head and the soundscape changes).

But oh well, maybe that's to come in future years..

^ I'd agree with The Verge. The lossless is a good feature, but music through Atmos is extremely hit or miss. Some songs just sound.......strange.

So, has anyone noticed a large increase in their data use? I have and it looks like a bug.

- turned on lossless back in June and noticed large data use, but once I turned off Download over Mobile it came right

- Larger than usual data use through to mid-late July but about what i was expecting

- updated to iOS14.7 on 22nd July

- have had large data use via Apple Music since 23rd July.

Have turned everything off/on (Audio Quality, etc) in different configurations and it still uses 25-30Mb per song. Currently have Lossless Audio off and Mobile Data Streaming set to High Efficiency, which should be 1.5Mb per song and its using 25-30Mb.

Just Reset Statistics in Mobile, started a song and boom......30Mb used.

Somethings not quite right.

It seems to only suit some songs. One example is how horrible Crowded House ends up sounding.

Those years have been non existent!!

Finally arrived with iOS 15, tested it out a few times and this is probably the best new feature for headphones.

A bit finicky with head tracking when the phone is turned off, but other than that my wishes have been fulfilled.

HRTF for audio requires the source to be mixed from multiple channels to actually output spatial audio for headphones (or in this case earplugs). If your track is just two channel CD songs then theres only so much processing can do to make it sound ‘spatial’. Loss of bass and lack of detail or loudness in some parts are common complaints because it’s getting processed incorrectly.

The only reason I researched this is because of games having the same issue. You need 7.1/5.1 source in order to use HRTF/Atmos/Sonic properly for headphones, but a lot of games have stopped doing that recently. Only VR games seem to do it properly simply out of necessity, you notice pretty quickly if audio is wrong in VR.

@SpartanVXL I have only been testing this with Apple Music and their Atmos listed songs, I cannot comment on anything else

I don’t have Music on my iphone, but I’m assuming if it’s listed as Atmos compatible then it’s been mixed as such.

Older songs which were not recorded in multiple channels won’t get the same effect.
