Lilly: Hi everyone,

I have found this thread interesting and had a couple of questions of my own.  I use a MacBook which is using 10.5.4.  Am I able to jailbreak using this version or does it need to be older?  Also I have just updated to 2.2.1 on my phone.  Am I able to jailbreak from there or do I need to go back to an earlier version?  Like other I suppose I am apprehensive and as much as I like to thnk I am quite technical in my thinking, at times like this I realise I am really not!

Cheers Lil

Hi there

It doesn't matter what version you're running on your phone as you're not really "upgrading" when you jailbreak.  You're wiping, and loading cracked firmware.  So you'll be fine to do it with your current setup.

Thank you. So I can just go ahead with one of the recommended tools and do it.  Does anyone know of a good video on youtube that they have followed?

Cheers Lil

And another question.  I have found these comments on the hackint0sh website and wonder how it applies.  Is there someone that could explain it to me please?

  1. GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone running 2.2 firmware and you want to keep your ability to use yellowns0w (or the option to use it in the future) do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
  2. Yellowsn0w will NOT work with the baseband version (02.30.03) that is present in the recent 2.2.1 update - you will need to create a custom ipsw that will allow you to update safely without affecting the baseband.
Cheers Lil

If you have a iPhone bought from Vodafone New Zealand you don't need to worry about yellowsn0w. Yellowsn0w is for unlocking for carrier locked iPhones sold overseas. Vodafone iPhones sold here are not locked.

Thank you. I guess now it's just plucking up the courage to do it.

Hi there, you can find some videos on youtube regarding Jailbreaking your 2.2/.1 iPhone 3G.

I was looking at jailbreaking mine in a day or so when things are so busy around here.

I had 2.2 jailbroken and just put the new 2.2.1 on.

But surely there are some good videos around, i remember looking at one on YouTube. But I cant seem to recall where i found it :S

But all I can say, is i've jailbroken at least 7 iPhones (numberous times each), and never had a problem so far.

Have fun! :)
